Nah that's Taiyo Yuden, unless they're fakes. Try burning at 8x. Sometimes lag can be caused by burning too slow. Burning faster may alleviate the problem.

well, the load time (for the game to start/for the opening to play)

So, it looks like it works good enough for me to at least attempt playing it (which i'll have to try in a bit...i'm in the middle of tales of legendia right now).

Thanks for the help.

Be forwarend DQVIII is long. It took me 170+ hours to finish. It won't take most people that long, I explore thoroughly and build a lot of levels. It's a really good game. Only a handful of people I know actually finished it. Ironically, I'm playing Tales of Legendia now. I really enjoy that one and the series. It's a welcome change after 170 hours of menu controlled action. Anyway, glad you got it sorted.

well, dq8's load times are too much. about 5 minutes to load the game, and about 4 to load the opening movie. I don't think I have it correct.

PS: tales of legendia is okay...i like the story/characters, but the fighting system, in my opinion, sucks, bad. XXXXXXXXXXX i win battle. repeat.

I love the battle system in Tales, but I go back a ways with the series. Anyway, have you tried all three methods of rebuilding? What's the code say on the inner hub of the disc, on the bottom? It should read GGxxxxx, where the xxxxx is the batch number.

Those are legit TY's. Make sure your firmware is up to date and your burner is in DMA mode.

92. Q. What is firmware and why should I care?
A. Firmware as defined by AD:
Sort of a "operating system of the hardware", an embedded instruction set built-in or flashed into a hardware equipment, such as a router, CDR drive, DVD-ROM drive, washing machine, etc.
Newer Firmware can unlock new features that are sealed on certain DVD Burners like booktyping, or simply enhance your existing Burner by improving burn quality and media compatibility. Keeping your Firmware up to date is essential to ensure quality burns and maximum functionality from your DVD Burner. When flashing your burner with new Firmware, be very careful. Make sure you shut down all programs running in the background, the DVD-ROM drive is empty, and you follow all the directions included in the Firmware download exactly. A bad flash can fry your DVD Burner. Proceed with caution. You can find all the Firmware you'll ever need here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

82. Q. When I'm burning with DVD Decrypter or Nero I get an I/O error or some other strange error, I'm not sure my burner is in DMA mode, and I'm confused about different media, what do I do?

hey guys, thanks for all the instructions and help, it really solved my problem. However i went through about...10 coasters? yea anyway, in the end it worked...I only did it with the genie thing and rebuilt the iso, i didn't even get rid of the dummy file!! (for some reason, when i make a notepad and rename it to the file...i couldn't overwrite it, it'll just stay in the folder with the dummy file) but it worked...even with the dummy file still there. I have a V6 or 7 PS2 (pretty old one), NEC 3500 burner, DVD Decrypter, Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R, burned at 8x speed, used swap magic v3.2, the game works like a charm.
