Looking in the paper I see the Sony dvd burner 800a, I have had Sony before but I am currently using two memorex 16 times. After one year and 700 movies later it is time to replace. Any good ideas....?

Cool.
How many burns you got with that puppy??
Also Someone said the BENQ??
Never heard of it. Plextor looks resonable price wise you get usuaully what you pay for. You are using the sony dvd rom and cd burner any other great ideas. I usually run two of the same burners and flip flop them so as not to use one up. I have two gigs of 4600 ram on the dell dual processor. Good 'puter. thanks for the info

The BenQ is a good burner, too. I think that I only have about 200 burns with my Plextor.

Thanks for the info. I researched the plextor, along with all the other ones that Newegg had to offer. It got about the same amount of bad reviews as everything else. I figured I would get the top of the line benq and the plextor you suggested. Thanks for the tip. If I can help out in anyway let me know but you probably know more than me. Thnanks again

Awesome drives and excellent prices. In fact, the plextor 740 is a rebadged benq 1640. That says something when it comes to the fact that plextor is outsourcing some of their drives!
700 movies? On all 3 of my benqs,that's not even the break-in period. I've got over 1700+ burns on my original benq 1620.400+ on my backup 1620,and only about 40 on my new 1640. These drives will burn anything you slap in them and at a 99%+ success rate.
I use the booktyping ability for the plus format into dvd-rom,making my backups higher compatability rates for stand alone players/ps2/and other pc drives. I didn't pay over $40 for any of these!
The plextors also booktype so you can't go wrong either way. Excellent drives,just cost a little more.

Allright you guys rock. Thanks for all the info. My brother in law works for Dell and his idea was to say that I needed to use LITE-on. He said that this was the industry standard. Well I never really heard much about them. Well I never heard much about Benq either but hey who knows. I have one day to make my decision and all you guys really helped out.

Lite-ons are very good.That's another brand name with the booktyping capability.You'll need to download the utility for it if you need that option. They also make some of the drives for sony like the dru 700/710/and 800/810/and 820 I believe.These are the rebadged liteys.
Good Luck with your decision on any of those quality burners.
