I recently purchased an internal hard drive and the casing to basically make it an external hard drive so I could increase the amount of hard drive space availible for my laptop. The computer acts like it recognizes it as a new disk drive but I cannot access through my computer or save to it through word or any other program any help would be appreciated.

You probably have not prepped and formatted the hard drive...
Do this....

1. Goto your control pannel.
2. Goto Administrative Tools icon.
3. Goto Computer Management icon.
4. On the left columb click Disc Management.
5. On the right columb you will see your hard discs.
6. Click on your new Hard Disc in the list, then right click and select Initilize Disc.
7. Then go through the wizard and format it too....

Now it should show up within your "My Computer" : )

It should come up with Initilize and format wizard?

Ok... Did you right click on the "Unalocated disc" drive and select Initilize Disc?

If you did then it should be shown within "My Compuer" you can double click it and it will ask you to format it....
