Unless you're using the 'Buffalo Firmware' hack, your Pioneer will not booktype DVD+R/RW discs

...But with the Firmware that I install, the A10XLA ,DVD INFO PRO now tells me that I can write in DVD-RAM. What's the use of DVD-RAM capabilities ?

dvd-ram is a completely different format, i have never used it before and i NEVER plan on it~ :)
the blank dvd-ram discs are pretty darn expensive too, i would much rather use the DVD+R DL discs and booktype than use the dvd-ram~
naturally, to use what we have available now would be a good bet:
dvd-r, DVD+R, dvd-r/dvd+r DLs

Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Ok, I cancelled my A10XLA Firmware to Install this one: http://tdb.rpc1.org/#DVR110D
Currently RPC1 with Bitsetting firmware based on 1.22 (Synthesized from 8.22). Drive will remain as regular "GENERAL" model, not Buffalo "OEM_INT" model.
So I should be good to go. My question now remains the same. How do I tell Nero to Book Type in DVD-Rom ?
AND is Nero the only Program I can use ?
Regards,
Dan

I set the booktype on my LG GSA 4163B in DVDdecrypter or imgburn.
Do you have either of those programs? Once set it will stay til you reboot your machine.

Yes , I have DVDD. But with your LG you have a TAB in Decrypter to change it to DVD-ROM. I don't have that tab with my PIONEER.

?1? open up Nero StartSmart, then click on Nero Burning Rom
?2? EXIT out the "New Compilation" when it pops up
?3? click on "Chooses A Recorder" (it's a small burner icon next to (I) and the arrow down)
?4? click on ?Options," then on "Book Type Settings," set to "Automatic" and click "OK" - that's it... easy as smoking. Now every time when you burn using a DVD+R, DVD+RW or DVD+R DL disc, Nero will ?automatically? change the Book Type into a DVD-ROM format.

Good Day,
Alright, It worked !! It's Booktyped DVD-ROM.
I analyzed it with DVDINFO PRO (PiPo Test) Seems like a bad burn.
How do I post my result in a post ? In another word, How to I put a picture in my post ;)
Thanks,

You can set up an account (free) at www.imageshack.org, take your pix, recommend that you save them in .png format (better for forums) and upload them. Use the DIRECT LINK code that image shack provides for you and paste the link between the holders. (Note the IMG's in the brackets need to be lower case to work)
This will allow the pix to appear.

@9mmruger
I have a question also. I have a Sony dvd burner but it's not listed on any of the tabs in Decrypter. If I use your method of booktyping in Nero, can I still use CloneDVD to recode or do I have to use Nero Recode? Are there any programs that are made just for booktyping?
Thanks in advance.

newtechie: Not all sony dvd-rw drives can booktype.Only the models that are re-badged lite-ons-using the sony brand name. The DRU-700/710/and 800 are some of the rebadged liteys.
Tell us the exact model# of your sony dvd-rw drive.
If it is a rebadged litey, you'll need Lite-on's booktyping utility for this job.
Post back that model#.
Edit: Here's a site for the sony drives that are rebadged liteys:

Hi saugmon-
I have a Sony DW-D22A drive. It wasn't on the page you listed but I did find it on www.videohelp.com and it said the OEM was Lite-On. Actually last night I was able to change the booktype with DVDInfo so I think I'm ok now. Also, Lite-On has their own booktyping utility. That worked as well. I still have to test the DVD I burned though.
Thanks for the reply. If I need more assistance I'll post back.

No problemo newtechie. Booktyping may not be no biggie if you only have a couple stand alones. But it you pass those backups around to friends and family, that booktyping-along with a quality drive comes in very handy.
I have buddies who said their players would not play plus format. I fooled both them and their players by giving them a booktyped backup!
I have another drive, I/O magic 16x empa drive which also booktypes, but those booktyped backups had a horrible compatability rate on my stand alones. This is the only occasion where dash actually worked better than the booktyped dvd-rom backups.Burner quality is also critical.
Good Luck,Burn on,and come on back!
Happy Holidays to all of AD!
