I would like to have anyone's feedback on what they believe is the best motherboard and why. Cost is not a factor. It can be for a specific purpose...(ie-gaming, data, etc.) I am looking for the best all around motherboard though. AMD is perferred, but the computer has not been purchased yet so comments on Pentium would be informative also.

Your question is WAY TOO VAGUE. Best motherboard for what??? What purpose? Do you wish to overclock? Are you comfortable with overclocking? And of course the answer changes by the week. About 3 weeks ago the new ASUS board would have been my top pick, now as of last week it is the new DFI board. But then I'm comfortable with overclocking, and know that high performance hardware tends to be picky about only wanting to play with other high performance hardware. In other words don't try to run a Ferrari on Honda Civic retreads, the top end boards require top end power supplies, top end RAM and other pricey hardware.

This is the current best board out there performance wise for someone looking to build a machine faster than anything you can buy.

Of course six months from now it will be old news as AMD moves to a new socket and DDR2 memory, but that's the computer biz.

Now the DFI board is not for the clueless of the world, it's a high performance board with so many options and parameters that those who won't/don't do their research will likely have a bad experience. But if you put the time and resources into it you'll have a board that can overclock like no other.

narrow it down a little asking just "whats the best motherboard" makes it difficult to answer

the best motherboard... for what what type of computer do you want, what are you going to be using it for whats your price range

I always stick to ASUS.
The speed is always very good, build quality and reliability are very good.
They overclock easily, and usually have a good layout.
Support is not too good, but not normally needed directly from ASUS anyway.
The only problem I've had is the Nforce chipset seems to have problems bringing the Ethernet port up. Also seen on friens PCs as well.

Best boards for overclocking are DFI by a long shot (Advanced Overclockers board)

MSI also make great boards (For the more newbie Overclocker)

if cost isnt a factor try this sytem.
