funny enough this is such a noob question that i have to say is actualy a good one...

what verify does is it checks all of the data on your disc after burning to make sure that everything was transfered to the disc properly to eliminate the possibility of errors... it is not necessary but is usefule if you are unsure... think of it like MD5 checksums for burnt disks (if you do not know what MD5 checksums are do NOT worry they are irrelevant)

I never verify and have had no problems. I suggest you try it once and see what happens. In the end, the disc has already been burned so verifying seems like a moot point to me. though it should let you know if there were any burn errors i believe.

that is why the verify option is there, because minor errors can occur that may not be reported, no always will every program report errors, like i said it just goes over the disc again and makes sure everything is there and properly stored...

Agree with 9mmruger1. Only true test is playing on a standalone DVD Player. Just comparing the 0's and 1's of the data transfer from a ripper or image to a burner is not a good enough test. Many flawed backups will play on the drive they were burned on but not a real player.

Hi there,

I like to run a test once in a while, specialy if I change burning speed, or change brand of media (New MEDIA ID).

I like to use VSO Inspector v1.1

Runs a "Sector By Sector" scan, then runs a file test to make sure all files are readable.

And it's free !

Once I tested a few, I keep burning the same media at the same speed, and no problems !

i'm with both sets of replies. if ever i change something, like new hardware, major change to Windows or newer version of Nero for instance, i CRC check the first few discs on the new setup. then i revert to the best test which is to watch all the burns as best as i can. other than that i don't believe in prolonged checking/verifying

verify can be useful, but can also be useless. When I built my first computer I used verify for the first few weeks, and about 50% failed. But when I watched them every single one looked flawless.

cheers squizzle, good to see you back, yes it has been ages. only 2 nights ago i was showing my ma some of the mugshot posts and we came across that one of you with your 2 cousins and you in that epileptic shirt, ma was in stitches :)

yup, i was being diplomatic re verifying stuff, for instance i have no faith in Nero's verification checking, i go purely for the odd CRC check by progs such as dvdinfopro, and mainly by watching or backing the backups again later
