I have burned many backups of PS2 games by re-building them. I use DVD decrypter to write an iso image on my harddrive. Then I use apache on the iso file. After that, i use CD-DVDrom generator to rebuild the file into another iso file. Finally, I use dvd decrypter to burn the new rebuilt iso image back to a dvd. All my backups work fine. So, my question is this: why do some of these discs turn out to be a substantially different size compared to the original. For example:

the original SSX on tour dvd is 4.5 GB. My backup is only 1.2GB. On burnout revenge the original is 3.5 GB and my backup is only 2.5GB. Despite these enourmous size differences, the backups all work fine. Why is this?

I figured that much, but that doesn't explain why the difference between the store bought SSX on tour and the backed up SSX on tour is 3 GB. What are these 3 GB worth of files and where did they go?

junk files to stop pirates. files needed for the ps2 to "authenticate" the store purchased disk.

I rebuilt ssx on tour using apache and cd-dvd generator. there are several tutorials regarding rebuilding games so I won't repost here. do a search on rebuilding games.
