2 choices than!
1: use another computer with xp to safe info.
2: kiss off all info & use restore disk.

Was your computer running fine and then these problems just occured out of nowhere? Also, have you added any additional memory to your computer, because according to emachines.com, your computer only has 128mb of memory.

Did you download or install anything before it slowed down? Try and go into your add/remove programs and uninstall anything that you installed close to the time your computer slowed down. If you can get into Norton a/v, try and schedule a boot-time scan and restart your comp. If you can't, then download avast antivirus and during the install make sure you schedule a boot-time scan before the installation is finished. Once it is installed you will reboot your comp and it should catch any virus/trojans before windows loads. Avast a/v can be found here...http://avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

well i am here and i am going to try and help you... this has happened to me SEVERAL times and i have solved it one very easy way which i will suggest to you last because depending on your circumstances it could be easy or time consuming to do...

if you have an antivirus cd they usualy come with a boot option that will allow you to start your computer with the cd and scan for viruses but that does not necessarily mean that it is up to date...

another method would be to use one of the online security checks from like symantec or something...

if you can try and scan your registry with a program like registryfix or CCleaner...

if these do not work try running checkdisk from windows when your computer starts...

and if all else fails re-isntall windows by doing a system restore usualy pressing and holding while your computer starts the Delete key or the F10 key... this should bring up your system restore (only for newer computers) otherwise boot with your system restore cd's and reinstall everything afterwards...

NB: in the event of a system restore i can not and will not be held responsible for any damage as a result of yours or your computers actions... in the event of a system restore it is highly unlikely that any damage will be done to your computer, this is just a precaution

a lot of users have read this blurb, i should really put it in my sig :).

this last option will definitely fix your problems... remember to always backup your DATA... and every user of this site should have a copy of linux knoppix so they can access their data when their computer becomes completely, utterly and savagely, F*cked <!>...

personally i have a dual boot with windows and fedora core 4, AND a knoppix cd and a bg rescue cd (command line only)....

A restore will get you back up and running, but unless you format your drive, I think any viruses you have will still be there.

as far as i know when you do a system restore with Windows it automaticaly formats your drive so everyone is happy..

if it doesn't download a msdos program from the net and write it to a floppy...

a fantastic alternative would be to download a program called 'Eraser' and to install it on someone elses computer and use the boot and nuke program that comes with it, when you run it a floppy will be created with an msdos program that will erase everything on your computer and it will be unrecoverable which is what you are looking for...

if you can get a copy of linux knoppix and boot from that and use a program like qtparted on it to format and partition also you can use a thumb drive and backup some of your important files...

hope this helps...

at Phantom. No way does Windows System Restore format your hard drive.

At any rate, Mariano isn't talking about a Windows Restore, I don't believe. I think he may be talking about using a restore disk that came with his Dell, or whatever computer he has.
