my manual says it cannot play "non standardized discs-so how can i get around this to use TPMGEnc to change svcd to vcd format to play on my machine.

non standardized disks just means that it has to be standard vcd/svcd so all you have to do is create them standard and you shouldn't have any trouble!

so how would you go about using TMPGenc to convert svcd to regular vcd-i have tried before and it converted it to vcd 2.0 but when i tried it in my dvd player ther was sound but no picture.

Well TMPGEnc wouldn't be creating vcd2.0, that would be the burning software you used. You can create vcd1.1 with VCDEasy - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/vcdeasy.cfm

Under MPEG tools select "multiplex" then add your SVCD title select a name to save it as (output) then change the "Type" to MPEG-1 Video-CD (non standard). Select "run". This tricks your home unit into thinking it is a VCD instead of SVCD. Doesn't work on all players though.

Ye sure no problem, you should thank BlinkoNon too for telling you about the vcd header trick because a lot of people dont know about it and it can come in very handy in some situations!
