This is what anydvd reads:

"Summary for drive D: (AnyDVD 5.6.1.1)
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)

Video DVD (or CD) label: CRASH
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1!

RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Structural copy protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!"

I was able to copy the files to the hardrive with dvd decrypter but once I try to open the files they won't open because it says it can't open video_ts and it says something about video_ts.ifo:3

I have tried using nero, clonedvd, and dvdshrink all of them can't open the files.

Please help!

can you produce your Nero log so that all who visit this thread can at least try to decipher it for you.

There is no Nero log because Nero won't even open the dvd files and thus an attempt for burning can't be made.

If you still have the orginal disc, use AnyDVD and CloneDVD to back it up direct from the original. I had the same problem from the HDD, but backed it up fine from the original with no problem.

or if you are using DVD Decrypter to read it set up decrypter this way with anydvd

To use DVD Decrypter in conjunction with AnyDVD as stated per Olli ->OF SLYSOFT AND CloneDVD

Proceed to the DVD Decrypter Opening Page - Tools - Settings

I/O Tab - Click on "Elby CDIO-Elaborate Bytes"

General Tab - un-check "Check For Structure Protection"

i was able to do the movie on the fly with CloneDVD 2 and AnyDVD with no problems try that instead of tranfering it to your HD first

Done with DVD Shrink in reauthor mode - main movie only - no funny business with this one.

Perhaps you have a faulty original.

*peeks in,

Hi might I also add I didn't notice if you did movie only in IFO mode. That way you get the movie only as I did it with dvd decrypter with anydvd running in the background. Another tidbit is to play about 5 mins of the movie in powerdvd (or whatever your media player of choice is ) and let anydvd recognize the dvd.

to burn or not to burn that is the question

playing some of the movie in a program such as powerdvd and skipping through chapters is a very useful technique that does not tend to be mentions in many answers.

I do this as well. I let the system recognize the dvd prior to starting the ripping program. For some reason this seems to work very well for me and I have not had a failure to date.

Cheers.

Thank you ALL! I was able to back it up by following the advice of aabbccdd and changing the settings on the DVD Decrypter. Thanks again!
