From reading other posts it seems the V7 is the best for backup disks. How do I know which one this is? Does it say somewhere?

Yeh , At the back, or If you just ask them, they will say, But seriously, buy slimline because it is much smaller, has built in modem and that, easier to use with swap magic, because you have to take the pin and manually push and pull the lid.

PS2 Slimline + Swap Magic + Fan
PS3 60gb Version 1.90
PSP 3.52 M33 EUR Black Version + Logitech Hard Case + Logitech 3 Sound Speakers + 2gb Sony Memory Stick
Nintendo Wii + 3 Wii&Nunchuck Controllers
NDS Original + M3 Simply + 1gb Kingston MicroSD
NDS Lite + M3 Simply + 2gb Sandisk MicroSD

It is EASIER to use with swap magic? Is swap magic all I would need once I have the new copied game?

Any version PS2 after v.3 will play backups. I don't know where you read that the v.7 PS2 is the best for playing backups, but that has little basis in fact. A v.7 will play backups fine, but so will a v.4, v.9, or v.13. The newer slims will be fine. The v.14 and 15 are already compatible with the DMS 4 and Matrix Infinity modchips. I don't believe they've made any design modifications to prevent Swap Magic and a slim tool from working on the v.14 and 15 PS2. So go with whatever version you like, as long as it's not a v.1-3. They won't read backups well.

7. Q. What do I need to use Swap Magic?
A. With fat PS2 v.1-11: Flip top:
http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop/page1.cfm
Slide Card: http://www.saveware.com/SlideCardUsageAndInstall.htm
With Slim PS2 v.12-14
Flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop-v12/pag...
Magickeys (also referred to as slide tool, slim tool or, magic switch): http://magickeys.net/
or tape and tissue mod: From Pretense: If the fliptop doesn't work, just give up on it and do a tape and tissue mod. Open up your case again and tape the back sensor (toward the upper left and beneath the hinge part of the lid) with duct tape or even regular Scotch tape (I use several layers to be on the safe side), put the case back together, and stuff a small ball of tissue into the hole for the front sensor (lower right just above the power button).

23. Q. What version is my PS2?
A. http://mod-chip.com/en/ps2version.htm

FYI, Any version of ps2 (including v1-3) can play backup but, V7 is better then it's predecesors (V1-6) because it has a much better laser then them. as far models newer then the V7 I would assume they also have better laser than V7.

Not according to my mod guy. Teammodders.com doesn't work on v.1-3 PS2's. A lot of mod sites won't even work on v.4 PS2's.

I know of many people who have v1-3 (modded) and have had no problems with their systems.

Alright that's not what my mod guy says, but I'll take your word for it.
