I have read the entire media thread and still have no idea what exactly I should buy. I went to supermediastore and looked for a taiyo yuden 1620 or DVD-R and couldnt find either. What about sony... its supposed to be okay but which ones at which speed they are all different. Can someone help?
sorry, phillips is made by cmc mag and is crap and the other media is ok but not recommended as it is hit and miss and they have compatibility issues with burners and ps2s and the other media you couldnt spell is verbatim and the only good medias are verbatim and taiyo yudens which can be found unbranded online or in sony +rs that are made in japan.(look somewhere on the packages to find out where its made. look closely, its hard to find sometimes). and also on maxell and fuji +rs made in japan. verbatim only uses mcc media which is great and second only to taiyo yuden but you dont have to browse for media because you just look for verbatim label. also search for how to booktype if your dvd burner supports it(+r only). and you should try all 3(dvd-r, +r, and +r booktyped to dvd-rom) and see which works best with your ps2. ive heard that v7 can read both but +r booktyped normally worked best in most cases. hope that helps.
depends on what your PS2 and burner seem to like.
But Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Verbatim, TDK, Philips
are the brands that are mostly used.
8X DVD-R are what i would get.
And although you may think Philips are crap that is far from the truth. I have used them for at least 2 years or more now and
never get a bad burn or a game that stops working. They are not
rated as the best for sure, but i have had a 100% success rate with them and no laser burn outs. Philips and Mitsubishi Chemicals make them, which is the same compnay that make the Verbatim that everyone loves.
