Trying to convert some VOB files, which I ripped, to either DIVX or XVID. I'm using Auto GK but I'm having a problem getting the Audio to sync with the video. Do I need something more than the VOB files? Not sure what to do at this point?

Hi,

Might I suggest you take a look at http://rita.lt/guides/AutoGK_DVDtoAVI.htm. A step by step tutorial is in the link. Any problems following the guide post back and we can get you converting with everything in sync.

to burn or not to burn that is the question

Thanks again for the guide Matt. I tried several different movies and got it to work fine however the original movie still is not in sync. I heard that Virtual Dub could correct and audio/video sync problem. I estimated the voice is about 8 seconds off from the video. In Virtual Dub I'm using a positive 8000 ms interleave setting. I saved too a new file however the save is like playing the movie in slow motion. Is there a way to preview the audio/video change. I would hate to get all the way through this to find that the audio/video is still out of sync.

Additionally when ripping a movie how do I know which VOB file contains the audio I will need? As you know, sometimes the DVD has director comments or additional languages. I ripped one movie and it had director comments all the way through it.

Hi,

In regards to the original movie that was out of sync I suggest you try it again as VirtualDub is included in autogk. By the way what was the name of the movie. I am in a remote place but if its a popular movie I can borrow it and try to do it to check the results.

Might I suggest if you want the movie only to use DVD Shrink in re-author mode or DVD Decrypter in IFO mode. DVD Shrink when used in re-author mode will let you see what is the main movie title, extras, trailers, etc. Also when you look at the audio options at the lower right when in re-author mode you should uncheck any unwanted language options. DVD Decrypter in IFO mode will rip the main movie only and when using autogk there should be an option in the settings that specifies the language/ sync preferences.

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/software.htm or check the link in my sig for additional guides written by some of Afterdawn's finest. Also while doing any type of video work try to turn off additional processes which at times may cause the out of sync, jumping and pixellation issues to name a few. I will pm a few fellow AD folks to jump in on this one as sorry to say I'm pressed to venture out into danger for the next few hours and they will assist you or provide alternative means to get you sorted. Good luck I will check back tomorrow.
