hi, i have been backing up my dvd's for a few months now, last week i put on a dvd backup in the car which i had backed weeks before only to find it would not play and the dvd player said no disc! now i have watched this dvd when i first backed it up and it played fine, but now it is like the disc is empty. my pc can't read the disc. i only use grade A media no cheap rubbish and burn with nero or alcohol 120%. after i tried a few more backups and there is a few that will not play and can't be read in my pc dvd-rom, all of which played without problems when first backed up. anyone had the same problem if so what is causing it?

many thanks,
Neil.

What kind of "grade A media" exactly are you talking about? Because, this kind of problem is usually associated with bad media, or too fast of a burn speed.

@ nwestwood hi @)
must say i have never heard of pio-data
as sytyguy has said, it looks like bad media to me as well
lets get a true id of your disc by clicking the link in my sig, download DVDIdentifier, run your disc through it and post your findings
then we can take it from there

i use RITEK pretty much exclusively, (see sig)
those you have are RITEKG05-R 1-8X speed, burn them at 4x max for error free backups
never had a problem of any of mine degradeing

Yep, gotta agree with gurnard, also. I've burnt several hundred with that media and NEVER a coaster.

Maybe it is time to upgrade you firmware, if you haven't, although it sounds like your burner might be going bad.

Here's a link to get the latest firmware for you burner.

Hi,

I had the same problem. Turned out to be a bad burner. Replaced it and no probs. Most likely was that the laser was not crystallizing the gel layer enough and on play the reading laser changed the resulting data to garbage. Hope this helps. BTW, I use a Plextor 708A burner at 4x and no problems.I also use Ritek G05 -r discs.
