OK, I have a Optorite DVD RW drive and I am having problems with it. To be speicifc it wont read or write CDs. I know it CAN because I have burned CDs and installed games from CD-ROMS but now it wont for some reason. I have tried several different brands of CDs and a couple different games and the drive wont even reconize that there is anything in it. I was using DVD decrypter and shrink to copy and burn DVDs and its still working fine, and when I put in a DVD movie it reads it fine so for some reason it just wont read CDs. Normally when I put a CD in the drive name switched to CD at "My Computer" put now it stays at "DVD-RW" but when I put a DVD in switches to "CD Drive". I have tried to update my drivers (none) and I have tried to use systme restore (failed and it wont let me restore back to a point BEFORE the problem occured). I am really starting to get annoyed because I cant just go out and buy a new drive because my dad wont let me install it because he doesnt trust me (probably because he knows NOTHING about computers) so I am limited to finding the problem and fixing it or living with out burning CDs or playing games :(. Please any help would be appreciated.

PS-sorry if this is the wrong section...

uninstall the drive in device manager than restart windows so it can load it's own drivers. uninstall your burning program(s), defrag your hd than re-install your burning program(s).

if ddp's suggestion does not work, i am sorry to say that your Optorite might be on it's way out...

i had about 3 Optorite DD1205s (12x dvd-burners) in the past, ALL of which gave me issues within 6 months after installation...in MY OPInion, the optorite drives are NOT made very well, the quality of them seem to be below average and i had to RMA that drive TWICE within a year's time~ finally after the 2nd replacement died (within 3 months actually) i just gave up and got a diff. drive from a diff. manufacturer, no problems/issues since the switch.
