You know... I am sorry to say that my current PC, *cough* crap *cough* is a Dell Dimension 2350 and only has inbuilt graphics. Dell is also well known for only supporting PCI in their systems. The thing that irritates me about that is I am buying a new fx5200, and everywhere I look, people on the forums are bagging it out. These people are all the hardcore gamers and must run games on extreme high and max resolution. I can't help it if I can only buy a PCI card. It wil do for what I want (some FPS gaming, and some strategy gaming). So please stop bagging it out and just deal with things the way most people have to deal with them. Turn off some graphics, or run it at a lower resolution. There are of course the nice people that won't bag it out, and are quite happy with their average performance on medium or so, and my hat is tipped to you people.

I am not having a go at anyone in the afterdawn forums, it is just that I have been a member long enough to know that the afterdawn members and staff are friendly to talk to, which is more than I can say for some other forums. Sorry for this useless rant, but this is how I feel, and I feel a lot better now what I have said it to some people that will listen. Some people might even agree with me.

I was unaware that the FX5200 was a PCI card infact im pretty sure its not because its an AGP card so if you only have PCI Slots available this new card is going to be useless to you.

The MSI FX5200 VTD is about the best version of that particular card it has over clocking features and can make for a pretty decent gaming card even by todays standards but a lot of the other versions of this card arent so good.

Id go for a 5500 if you dont have a lot of cash to spare on a card as they tend to be better cards overall (in my experience)

But remember that if you only have PCI slots your not going to be able to get any kind of decent graphics card at all

Studio Comp: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ OC ~ 2.35GHz runs at 40 celcius idle and 48 under stress (aerocool GT1000 really works!), Asrock K7VT4A , 1024MB Dual Channel DDR 400, MSI Nvidia FX5200 128MB OC ~ 600MHz mem 350MHz core,80GB SATA + 200GB SATA + 120GB IDE, 7.1 Channel Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound and midi interface. 19" Sony SDM-HS95 TFT monitor - sweeet
Comp2: AMD Sempron 2400+ OC ~ 2.0GHz (Stable), Asrock K7S41GX, 512MB DDR 333, Onboard Graphics, 40GB Maxtor IDE

set of monitors on the way soon :P
Google is your friend...
WorkComp: LAPTOP, intel celeron D 2.4GHz, 256MB DDR, 20GB hd. NO SCREEN IT WAS SAWN OFF :S (bag of crap)

Turn off some graphics?
Thats not why people spend £400 on the latest grahics cards...
:)

Exactly.
You can buy a whole new motherboard, with Athlon64 XP-M 2800+ CPU onboard, for $135 bucks Canadian.
It has onboard SiS graphics - and an empty AGP 8x slot, too!

You must really love that Dell to consider buying it a PCI FX5200...

the point is... I can't get a new system because its way too much. The Dell isn't that bad, even though it doesn't have any AGP or PCI-E slots. 2.4ghz, 512mb ram (which is my next upgrade), 80gb hard drive. Its more than fine for playing some of my older games, like Jedi Academy, KOTOR, RTCWolfenstein, Unreal Tournament 03 and 04. Dude, the 5200 would play those so well. I am not as hardcore as you people at playing games at highest level, I would be happy to play half-life 2 on low or medium with AA turned down or off. Battlefield Vietnam on medium.

The only other reason for not being able to buy a new system or motherboard is because I am 14. Now run away if you don't think discussing this with a 14 year old is worth your time. Before I can buy anything for my comp, i have to first talk to my parents about it.

BTW, the fx5200 is a PCI card, it does come in a PCI flavour (128mb 128-bit) for around $120-150 Australian. In Australia I cannot find a 5500, 5600, 5700 anywhere for PCI. You guys in the US have Newegg, which is a wonderful site but they don't ship overseas, and even if they did my parents said I can't get anything from overseas.

Look, I am sorry if you think I am a bit arrogant, but its something that irritates me when gamers say "PCI is crap" etc etc. The fact is for years PCI was the best, and it can play all of the older games, plus I can get away with playing some of the more recent games.

Anyway, I am ordering my card in the next couple of days and I can guarantee myself that It will own my onboard graphics.

see you guys...
