Ok, I don't know where to ask for help so I am trying here. The problem is a bit complex.

First, I tried to full erase my DVD+RW disc but the formatting stop halfway because nero hanged. I forcefully ended Nero (no choice since it's not responding for too long...) and the disc is not regconized anymore.

Even when I tried to do a full erase, Nero will say "Illegal disc. Please insert a rewritable disc."

I tried using DVD Decrypter but it says "I/O Error! Incompatible Medium Installed". Basically my media is not regconized at all.

In DVDInfoPro, it says "No media present in drive"

So the question is, what can I do? I am using Verbatim DVD+RW disc which I just bought last week. I have only used the disc once for burning and while trying to erase, this happens. Is there a program that can just force the drive to do a format regardless of media?

Or is there anything I can do here? Thanks...

Maybe you just need to keep on trying (e.g. Alcohol 120%)?

Nope, the problem is not a software problem, so it seems. After trying many things, I believe that the disc is rendered unregconizable. During the formatting, the application hanged and a computer restart was required. I believe that the initial part of the disc, during formatting, wasn't written completely. Data pertaining to the media information of the disc.

Thus, even the drive do not regconize it as a DVD media due to the absence of any information that tells the drive what the disc is. So if the hardware believes that the media inserted is not a DVD media, then it perform any commands that you throw at it. It's like inserting a clear plastic disc into the drive.

I posted my problems here because I believe I am not the first and last one to have met such a situation. There's always a possibility that while formatting a DVD+RW, your computer might just hang or restart or just shut down due to a power failure. If such things happen, is there any way to just force the hardware to do a format without bothering whether a media is inserted or not.

Do you have other RW disks that work with your burner and only one is bad? If more than one of a brand or batch have formating probs, it could be a firmware or other burner incompatibility issue.

when you record onto a rw disc the software program will format the disc for you before recording starts and if you record over the disc the software will erase the disc for you this is the safe way and you will not lose any rw discs

Hmmm, it's only that disc. Anyway, I did some research and there are other users with such problems too. It seems nothing will work since the drives don't regconise the disc as a legitimate media if the formatting was halt unexpectedly expecially at the starting part of the formatting process where important infomation about the discs are written to it...

@Ace..... I would try something like what David66 mentioned. use DVDDecryter to copy movie to hard drive then use Shrink to compress..... after which use your favorite burning software and see if the program will AUTOMATICALLY format or write to the disk. Have you tried that. Sometimes when a disk is not recognized by the drive itself a program will over ride it and just start writing... don't ask me why but I had something like what you said happen to me with an RW disk and this is what I did and IT WORKED...... to my surprise. Wishing you luck. If not ..... it's only one disk.... you can always get another!

Well, I remembered I did try burning a new image on it. Nero paused for a long time before telling me to insert a blank media. Well, that's it.

Anyway, since I got that for only a week, I went back to the store and got an exchange. This time, I will be extra careful. Probably I will use some other programs to do the format for me instead of Nero. Maybe tools like DVDInfoPro or Nero CD-DVD speed...
