WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO BACKUP PS2 Games

yeah i just got the swap magic and i can burn games and all. but for some reason the games play good until a sertain level to where they just freeze. like the matrix path of neo. i make it to where the walls appear and i have to find a way to get to morpheus and them and all of the sudden it freezes at the same spot. and the game GUN. once im done killing the people that are trying to burn down the bar it freezes and dead to rights also does that. well is there sertain dvd's to use . whats better - or +? programs methods? anyone getting good games to where they actually beat them with out problems? i use alcahol 120% and fujifil dvd+R and also i used TDK dvd+R.

I think your supposed to rebuild both of those games. Search the forums for each game, there is a guide.

Gun didn't need a rebuild.. mine backed up fine with straight 1:1, but it's PAL version so could be different for NTSC?

what type of dvds u use? and the speed on burning. cause this made me mad im at the best part of the game and boom it freezes.

Different people use different media, myself i use Verbatim or TDK DVD-R x8 and i always burn at x4 which most of the time they work fine but some games do require a different speed in order to work 100% it's just a matter of trial & error when it comes to burning Ps2 games.

Best way to backup PS2 games is if it's a DVD5 (ie under 4.7GB)
1) insert your original game into dvd-rom drive or dvd burner
2) open up DVD Decrypter, Mode, ISO, Read R
3) select your "source" <--- where the original game is located
4) select your "destination" <--- to your hard drive
5) click on DECRYPT (now sit back and relaxe until it's completed)
6) insert blank media (use high quality media like Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (made in japan) into your dvd burner
7) Mode, ISO, Write W
8) select your "source" <--- from your hard drive and choose MDS file
9) select your "destination" <---- to your dvd burner
10) click on WRITE (now sit back and relax until DVD Decrypter successfully completed)
That's it... easy as smokin'!!!
Now if it needs rebuild (ie the PS2 game is a DVD9 or over 4.7GB), then of course you'll need Apache 2, CDVD GEN 1.5, ISO Buster(not necessary sometimes), DVD Decrypter (again to rip and burn) and you know the rest is history.

sorry if this a noob question coz most ppl on this forum tell us to copy the iso file. i just want to know which one is right.

I use ISO, but mds people use also. Try MDS first.

You're welcome. Yes, choose MDS instead of ISO. The MDS file may look small, but it actually carries everything in there. Mainly ISO is for ripping movies that use in combination of DVD Shrink, then burn it back with DVD Decrypter again.

@sulaim - no, the mds file just tells the program how to burn the iso file basically.. it will take as long as it would to burn the iso.

@reader34 - Well for me i've always been burning the iso so i guess it doesn't make a difference, but stick with MDS for newbies

Yeah, I agree with 3dluis... I don't think I ever used the mds... but a bit simpler for newbs to use that and also it doesn't matter what file system you're running.
I usually use DVD Decrypter to get an iso and mds to the hard drive. Then I use nero's burn image to disc program at 4x on 8x good media... never failed me.

Again, even if it's only showing 5KB, but it actually has everything in there (ie it's much wiser, it's telling the program DVD Decrypter to burn). As a matter of fact, if you're ripping and burning a DL media, the MDS file will handle the break layers better. I've always burned and choose only MDS since the very begining (since I discovered DVD Decrypter) when it comes to PS2 games burning. So far all of my PS2 backups plays flawlessly.
However, if you were to burn a DVD movie in a combination with DVD Shrink, then yes.... choose the ISO once DVD Shrink is done, then grab the ISO file and burn it with DVD Decrypter again (or you can have DVD Shrink setup to "create ISO Image and burn with DVD Decrypter" right away when DVD Shrink is completed.

NOTE: I'm not going to get into a debate here, but just a side note here.
Choosing and burning the MDS file is not for newbies, it's much wiser and it burns more precisely (especially for layers). Ask any Seniors or Addicts members (sly_61019, Hursty or Steimy - they're all experts on PS2 gaming/burning) or any experienced members with DVD Decrypter here at AfterDawn.

lol tell da truth when i was newbie i used dvd decripter straight away and burnt it with it aswell lol god i wish that programe came bk and got updated again.

@alkohol.. I didn't mean it to sound like choosing the mds file is just for newbies, I meant that it's easier for them to understand if you just tell them to burn the mds file. In fact I think that I have always told everyone that's using DVD Decrypter to choose the mds file.
And I totally agree that I would use it too if I was burning dual layer discs.. I just prefer to use Nero to burn my discs as I have always done it that way and never had any problems with them.

Plus, if you have fat32, the .mds is usually your only choice.

AND Besides, Just because their AfterDawn Addicts, doesn't mean there pro backup ps2 games, whats so pro about putting the ps2 disc in and read, then burning onto a dvd. We all have our Ups in different ways, and besides, i think hursty has a modchip so he doesn't really get any of the swap magic probs (i think.)

for those people who want DVD Decrypter you cant get it off this website anymore!!!!!!!!you can get it off your p2p..which i suggest bcuz it is very simple and straight forward and is used more than Alcohol 120 and Nero.if you want to know what is the best media you should look around the website bcuz its everywhere,bst are:tdk,ritek,verbatim,taiyo yuden,,maxell,sony anything from japan.dont get media from taiwan or korea cuz they suck!get DVD-R not DVD+R and get 8x.and best modchips to boot your games are DMS4 and Matrix Infinity.rebuild games with iso buster.i think this answers the main questions out there so give the addicts a rest cuz they do their job well...
