Please help...I am looking for a firmware upgrade to this DVD player in my HP zt3010us...I cannot find blank DVDs out there anymore that are compatible with my 2.4x maximum as everything out there now is 16x...is there a firmware upgrade to at least 4x that could fix this (apparently 16x DVD+rs are compatible with 2.4x drives that have a 4x firmware flash on the, even though the max speed will still be 2.4x)? Thank you in advance.
P.S. I have googled the heck out of this, I appreciate all help.

I was always under the impression that the burner would only burn as fast as it cuold, and the media would allow up to as much as was shown on the front of it to be burned at that speed.

If you have a DVD burner below 4x speed, you need to upgrade firmware to 4x speed, even if you cannot burn at that speed, in order to use the faster capable blank DVDs...anyone know where to get this firmware???

Try calling HP? They might be able to give you the link to the firmware since it is one of their products

Sorry that didn't help. I suspect that this is an inferior product, as many threads have indicated a multitude of issues with this model burner. HP tech support is useless, at best.

I agree w/ you about HP, support is just horrible. There might be some good news...I overburned a CD last week and ever since DVD playback has gone bad (choppy)...DVD burning is still ok on my old DVDs that are running out (but for some reasons CDs now come out bad, wierd)...anywho, I will be taking it in to Best Buy under my 3 year warranty and expect that they are out of my DVD burner after 2 years and will replace with something more current or at least flash upgradable. If you have any more suggestions, I would appreciate your help. Thank you.

Did you try to undo the Overburn for CD's? That may be part of your issue.

Thanks for the DVD info, will try to get an upgrade free from BB first...the overburn was just for one CD in Nero, because it was over the 80 minutes...after that it was back to normal...my old blank DVDs work, 16x do not (but now CD come out wierd even in normal setting).

Update...ok, went through Nero and fiddled with the options. It turns out that Nero DVD recode burns at "maximum." So, I selected 2.4x from the menu and tada, the 16x DVD burned; however, it only plays on my laptop...my brand new JVC reads and keeps spinning forever, but will not load up the DVD. Any suggestions??

First suggestion: Change brand of disks to one that the JVC likes better. Second suggestion: See if you can Booktype those DVD+R over to DVD-ROM (probably not but worth checking).

What is booktyping, how do you do it and what will it do to my DVDs (i.e., will they be compatible with my JVC DVD player and others)? Thank you.

Booktyping is canging the identity of a DVD+R or +RW disk to DVD-ROM, which is the most compatible.
