Hi all,

I usually D/L for torrent sites , but my U.K ISP is stopping me from using P2P at certain times of day. I have tried mIRC but get bored of waiting even though my speeds are not affected using mIRC.

So what i want to know is.

1) How come they don't slow my speeds down on mIRC.
2) If i was to pay a subscription to a news group would my speeds still be slow.

And if any of you have been in the same situation as me what did you do?

And i can't cancell my isp till another 6 months

thanks

If at first you don't succeed give up and move on

A month ago my ISP (Plus Net) put a throttle on my Usenet connection after I went above 15GB. They gave me no warning off this. One day my download speeds were 235KB/s, next day they cut it too 3KB/s. I migrated to another service immediately and got out off paying a cancellation fee by phoning them up complaining I did not recieve any warning my speed would be throttled. Don't quote me on this but I think your ISP blocks certain ports that are used with p2p programs etc. Did your ISP tell you they were going to implemnt this?

Just out of interest which ISP is it?

I think the problem is that they know the port that your BitTorrent client is using, so you should see if you can change that to something above 65300 to 65535, where they don't usually tred. mIRC I'm guessing uses a type of connection that isn't effected by the ISP since they might pass over that type of P2P.

And if I were in your situation, which I was for a while, I would check to see if any of your firewalls (from the modem or computer software) were blocking a port that your Torrent client is using. Try to make it run in "Stealth" for most ports, and leave the ones you use open under stealth.

If Im online, Im usually on Steam:
