Hi all,

I have got an LG GSA-4082B and I have been getting the same problem. It started out when I was buring Debian Linux ISOs and they were failing their integrity checks (I was burning them using Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6, which doesn't check after burning). They seemed to burn fine to my Verbatim DVD-RWs, but haven't had any luck burning to my Verbatim DVD-Rs. Managed to burn some ok using K3B under Linux, but it was incredibly slow.

Neways, just went out and bought Nero 6 because I thought it was a software problem and I wanted something that would verify after it had burned. Now when I use Nero to burn a data DVD I get the same
Quote:
Sector N on disc has different content to source
I also tried using Sony media but still getting the errors, I have also upgraded to the latest firmware on my drive. I am using Microsoft drivers for the IDE controllers, as well as the SiS5513 UDMA controller driver for my chipset, all of which seem to be the latest versions.

Just ttried doing a CD and I am still gettting the errors for CDs.

Here is the logfile I think I got everything u need there. pls help - this is getting very expensive in coasters! I hope I don't have to buy a new drive!
Andrew

Roxio in itself can have issues on some systems. Sometimes the Drag to Disc can be dropped and others it has to be deleted. Likewise the InCD in Nero needs to be left out of installations or be removed. Roxio even leaves troublesome remnants, so you may want to use RoxiZap if you remove your Roxio app. Take a look at the link below.
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/kb/ecddvdc/ee6000061.jhtml
If you have the batch writing software, try removing them and trying the burn again with Nero. Be sure to use name brand quality media and also be sure your firmware is up to date.

I ran the Roxio killer from another thread on this forum yesterday, but the one you recommended seemed to work better, I cleaned and reinstalled Nero afterwards as well just to make sure. I have also installed windows on another drive and tried burning from a fresh install but it still complains, so I tried changing the IDE cable but still no better.

I think I am going to have to admit that the drive is probably dead, which is really annoying, but I have ran out of things to try with it. I tried installing it in another computer, but that one wasn't powerful enough to burn DVDs, so I couldn't do a proper test.

I am going to have to admit that the drive is probably dead. If I have to get a new one which brand do you all recommend? I don't want to be having this trouble again in a years time.

Plextor is one of the better burners. Personally, I've had good luck with Pioneer, HP, and Samsung drives. Lite-On and LG are a couple more that get decent reviews.

Through trial and error.... I threw in an old hard drive and reinstalled windows. I then started to install every piece of software one by one that had anything to do with my plextor dvd burner, and test burn using Nero after each install. When cyberlink powerdvd installed the burner burnt fine. but when i used powerdvd's diagnostic program, that's when everything stated to error. anyone know why? does my plextor not want a third party messing around with it's DMA settings?

I've sort of the same problem. DVD worked fine for awhile, now it won't finalize discs or/and has trouble recognizing discs.
Just a wild guess. Perhaps the there is malware on copyprotected dvds that works with decrypter, shrink. Perhaps it is not on dvd but download ed from the web and activated by ripping.
How about- complete restore from factory recovery disc, and NEVER EVER web surf or rip from an account with admin privledge.

I suspect someone would have noticed that by now. Nice start for another urban legend though. ;)

Then the fault was probably in your operating system. Optical drives are supposed to be plug and play.

Really, really starting to get fed up with this one now. I have just been out and bought an external drive because I had tried everything else, clean install of windows and changing the IDE cable, and I wanted a firewire one so that I could use it on my mac as well.

Guess what, the drive works perfectly on the mac (but maybe that's a discussion for another thread), but when I came to burn it on my PC I am still getting the error on both Sony and Verbatim media. wtf is going on with windows? It can't really be a hardware problem with the IDE channel or drivers, as the new drive is firewire and I get the same problem under Linux.

Just for fun, here's the specs of the drive:
LaCie DVD +/- RW Double layer
it identifes itself in Nero as:
NEC-DVD_RW ND-3550A 1.05

Any help someone can give me would be greatly appreciated, I really am banging my head on the wall over this one!

Does the disc play? You're using RW and I'm wondering if the media you're using has something to do with the verification error. Try a full format before recording or better yet try a R. Or have you already tried that?

I have tried burning using Verbatim and Sony DVD-Rs, Verbatim DVD-RWs and some really cheap and nasty Tesco DVD+Rs.

Oddly enough after burning using the cheap +R disc the problem seemed to clear up for a few of burns, even with the other media, but 3 burns later and I was getting the error again.

Also I have never had a failed burn using my mac and the LaCie drive using the same media, so I thought that ruled out media and drive, but I am still getting the problem on my PC.

I was using Roxio, but I followed your advice and killed it (by reformatting so it's definatly gone).

Do you think it would be worth emailing Nero? The only thing I can think is that it's some sort of a bug between my motherboard and Nero driver?

6.6.0.18 is the more stable version of Nero. The 6.6.1.4 has been causing some problems. If you suspect a driver problem with Nero, the best thing to do is remove Nero, clean the system and reload to see what happens. On the Nero site in support, Nero has a collection of Clean Tools.
