Hey Guys...i have a sony dru 500a and i've been using dvd decrytor and dvd2one to make backups for a couple of months. I'm a perfect 25/25 with no coasters. I have the latest firmware for 500a the "g" version. I've been using Ritek dvd-r's in bulk for my burning with great results...however...i bought some in bulk the other day and the first 20 or so burned fine @ 2x but now nero says i'm burning @2x but I KNOW i'm only at 1X per the amount of time it is taking. ie...2x takes about 30 mins...1x about an hour. The dvd's i'm producing are still of great quality..they are just taking an HOUR! So my question is...is there a reason for this or is it a stronger possibility that the disks are only rated at 1x? If we think the later, then why whould nero recognize the disk as being able to burn at 2x?

Regards

This has to be your software how many burning utilities do you have installed pick your favorite one, obviuosly your most reliable and stay with it.After you do this clean up your registry. This problem is not the burner i have the same one with the same firmware and i burn 2.4x in 20 min,2x in 30 min.

jovanni77,

Thanks for the reply...well I only use NERO. I have version 5.5.14. And it worked perfect before, as you said. 2x in 30 mins. I haven't changed anything in nero. And if i did I'm not sure what it was. Do u have any knowledge about nero?

Whats up that says everything your nero version needs to be upgraded to 5.5.10.7b or 5.5.15a,the version 14 through 17 had a problem buiding a optimized burn cache.I remember well.

jovanni77,

Well...feels like bad news. I now have Nero 5.5.10.15a and everything seems to work except i get "power calibration error" when i try to burn a dvd or erase a RW. I looked up power calibration errors in nero's help and it said it is a result of firmware. I have the "g" version of the firmware...which is the latest i believe. What firmware do u have?

jovanni77,

ahhhhh....well, i tried what you advised. I uninstalled all burning software....ran system mechanic and norton system works. Everything says my sys reg is clean. Reinstalled nero...tried to erase a RW and BOOM "power calibration error". Does anybody even know what this means? I'm really discouraged because i was doing so well....and all of a sudden nothing works! Also, the dru 500a did make a perfect copy of a cd with no problems. However, will do nothing with dvd's. Keeps giving the before mentioned error. Any ideas?

are the blank dvds compatible,Ive seen this error before too but i got passed it by using the fixes i noted.try running the nero speed tools and check out your spin down speed of your burner.ITS NOT THE BURNER.ITS NOT NERO. What operating system are you running.

I'm Running XP Professional, using Sony +RW disks and Ritek -R disks. I know both are compatible and worked fine before. As noted earlier in thread....i had burnt a bunch of dvd's then all of a sudden this started happening. I started getting the error when i went to nero 5.5.10.15----however, i tried to go back to the 5.5.9.14 i was using before and now all versions give me the same error.

make sure you are giving all resources possible to your burn also burn dvd with the nero iso/udf.This can be multiple possibilities but if your burning cds you know your burner fine also run the nero speed tool, and you should check your burner with the drive checking tool, from sony storage support page where the firmware is.Sorry your having so much truoble make sure your using a rewrite untill you get it straight.
