Hi I'm new to this... Someone mentioned to me that it is possible to copy PS2 discs but that in order for them to work in the console
some type of chip needs to be inserted. Is this true?

Can anyone clear this up for me? Thanks

Yes, it is true. You will need some sort of modification to play burnt copies of games. You can get a modchip or go with boot discs. Boot discs are cheaper, but you do have to swap the discs out each time you want to play. The most popular boot disc is Swap Magic. You can find that here: http://www.swapmagic3.com/. Also, if you choose Swap Magic, you will need a mod tool depending on your PS2 version (slide tool, magic switch, magic keys, etc).

Sorry 3dluis, was typing the same time you posted!

hey 3dluis, you seem to know alot about this. I don't own a modchip or own swap magic (or anything of that sort). However I have DVD Decrypter on my computer. If i want to back up my ps2 games, what should be my next step?

Do I really know to get swap magic or a modchip? Please help. Thanks.

You mean do you really need to have Swap Magic disc with Flip Top or Modchip to play your backup PS2 games? Yes.... you'll definitely need an aftermarket modifications in order for you to play all your PS2 backup games properly.

No offense here, but for any other newbies,

Asking how to play a PS2 backup games on an unmodify PS2 console, is like.... can I watch my DVD movies backups on a TV without a dvd player.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

ahahahahahahahahahahhahhhahhahhahahahhahhehehhehehhehehahahahahaha!!
:)

a simple search of these forums will also give you all the info you
need as far as which modification you may want and why.
I am sure no one is trying to be rude of flame you here, but it
does get a bit old answering the same questions day after day
for years. That is why they have a search feature.
cheapest way: Swap Magic & fliptop
Best way: Modchip (DMS4 Pro or Matrix Infinity)

Thank you, I do know alot :P If money is a problem, Buy swapmagic 3.6, its cheaper and boots alot of ps2 games. check www.swapmagic3.com for more info and guides, but if its not, just buy a modchip and get it professionally installed

OK in reality we're not playing copies of games we already have right?
So since we're on the topic of sharing (to save$$) is there any
mod, equivelent to swapmagic etc, that can be obtained on the net for free? Gotta be a download somewhere.
