I've been thinking lately about putting together a compilation dvd with choice music videos from various music dvd's I've got. So I'm considering what would be an efficient means to pull specific videos off my discs and then line em up on my own disc. Usually these music dvd's have each video as a single chapter but sometimes they're split apart into their own title tracks. I suppose the easiest way to compile this would be one of those home dvd editing suites, but I don't know which ones are worth anything. The place to start is how to pull individual chapters from these discs easily.

a program called "Ulead DVDMovie Factory" is a great program for creating a single DVD from multiple video files, it creates a menu and burns your project.

I've used it a few times, it very easy to use and works great.

Hope this helps!

Hypocrip,
I like doing the same sort of thing with music videos. Only problem is these dvd editing suites do not allow you to keep multiple audio tracks which some of these music dvds come in(eg 2.0 stereo, Dolby 5.1 etc).

Deline, I last used Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2, some years ago so not sure if the version you are referring to now allows you to keep multiple audio tracks.

Failing this Nero Recode has a facility to Merge videos (this is not working properly yet however the tecnicians are currently trying to fix it). Or you could try DVD2One which merges titles. Both these allow you to keep multiple audio tracks. You will have to test this out to see if this works for you or your player. I am waiting for the fix in Recode to try this out.

Ulead dvd moviefactory 4.0 allows you to import dvd compliant files (VIDEO_TS folders containing vobs ifos and bups) into your project and combine them with menu so you can select which title to watch.
This can be done without reencoding the original files so it's a fairly fast process (7-8 minutes to combine two 1.7 gig folders for example). I suggest ripping your music video segments with Dvdshrink in reauthor mode into separate sub folders, each named VIDEO_TS (this is important because otherwise it will not import into moviefactory). After importing, you can rename the video titles if you like. Then choose "create menu", set background image, background music, etc.. I would also suggest checking the box "do not alter mpeg compliant files" under settings. This way you can create your reauthored dvd quickly without reencoding. If it needs to be shrunk down to fit a dvd, then there are probably better programs for this duty such as dvdshrink or dvdrebuilder. I'm not aware of any other reauthoring programs that can handle VOB folders as simply as moviefactory 4.

ufc,
Are you talking about DVD MovieFactory 4 Disc Creator or DVD MovieFactory 4? Also are you saying that multiple audio tracks are retained in Moviefactory eg AC-3 stereo and say dolby 5.1 and both are kept in your project? I know for example Pinnacle Studio version 9 & 10 allow you to import dvd content into a project but does not import more than one audio track.

Looks as if Ulead's DVD MovieFactory 4 might be the way to go. From the pdf fact sheet on their website, it appears as if the program can handle multiple audio tracks per video title. Here is the relevant excerpt from the pdf:

"NEW ? Multiple Background Audio for Video Titles - Add multiple
background music and audio files to your video titles and also set the
audio to fade-in/-out between tracks."

I'll give it a try then and see what happens.
