Booting problem

I have had success backing up PS2 games in the past. However, lately games that I am backing up will get to the initial boot where you have the black background and the words "Playstation 2" come up, but then the screen just goes blank.
Anyone have an idea of what is going on?
My reads and writes are saying opperation successful. But I haven't been able to back up a game lately.

What method of booting backups do you use? What kind of media are you using?
1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?

If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.

DVD decrypter and Ritek.
Things were working fine, then all of a sudden they stopped. Some back ups will boot, and then when they try to load it fails and the screen either goes black or I've even had it tell me to insert a PS2 formatted disc.
I don't know.?????

No I meant Swap Magic, a modchip, what? You can't just direct boot backups without some type of mod. What game are you trying to back up?

Honestly, I'm not sure of the chip. A friend of mine installed it. I know the install is good and the chip works.
Some of the games...lets see, Tiger Woods 06, True Crime, Kill Zone, and Call of Duty: Big Red One.
Maybe it is just the games....who knows.

Do a search, there are tons and tons and maybe hundreds of threads already have answered your question. So just do a search. The basic is to have DVD Decrypter:
- ISO, READ R to your hard drive (now wait until it's completed)
- ISO, WRITE, to your dvd burner and choose the MDS file
- "source" from your hard drive and "destination" to your burner
- click on Write (sit back and relax)
*(NOTE: make sure to use high quality media such as YUDEN, Verbatim "Advanced Azo" or Maxell (made in japan by Hitachi Corp.)

Does it matter if you choose the MDS file or the ISO file? I thought you wanted the source file to be the ISO file?

Pretty much what alkohol said.
Use DVD Decrypter. ISO read, then ISO write. It's as simple as that.

I'd like an answer to that too. Most of what I read says "burn the ISO" but I see some people saying to use the MDS...

Not really, but the MDS file is just a smart way to burn that's all. MDS is like a small cell or brain that's telling DVD Decrypter to write in a more precise way basically.
For dvd movies, I used the ISO.
For PS2 games, I used the MDS file.
