i purchased a (very expensive) pack of maxell discs for making backup games from a reputable store. when i opened dvd decrypter, it said the Manufacturer ID was Ritek GO5.
I also purchased (fairly cheap) unbranded discs for other stuff from my local computer store. according to DVD Decypter, the Manufacturer ID was Ritek GO5.
All i want to know is that are the expensive maxell the same as my unbranded disc?? and should i use the cheap ones to make bakup games as well?
thanks a lot.

Yep, could be the same dye used, but not manufacturer maybe..
The point is.. with the maxell you know that you're getting good discs, with the unbranded ones you're taking a chnace that they could be crap and that you've wasted your money.
You got lucky this time is all :)
How much did the maxell cost you? and how much were the unbanded ones?

The only Maxell I recommend is "Made In Japan", that's where the High Quality is from -- their Made In Japan is made by Hitachi Corp. is a top notch High Grade media. Other than that, I wouldn't even buy them at all cost.

@sulaim give the unbranded Discs a try they might be good for backing up games. I purchased a 100pk of DVD-R (unbranded, their own) From Officemaxxx for $20 and i have backed up movies and ps2 games with out no problems.

i tried to look for made in japan logo on the box. i could not find it. it seems that it was made nowhere (lol). they were £1 each. the unbranded ones were 3 for £1.
so the verdict is that i shud stick to maxell. right?

Get your discs from here:-
http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/
Very good site, and they tell you the media code on the discs when you're browsing them.
Look int he non-printable DVD-R section at the verbatim 25 pack 8x(Taiyo yuden TYG02) and the ridisc extreme 50 pack 8x(RitekG05)... both very good discs, I use them myself.

anyone know if this store is reputable?
http://www.meritline.com/ i have not bought discs online, just at local stores, and when i saw them on sale i just stocked up on my favorite Philips discs.
But i want to give some Taiyo Yuden a try as everyone says how good they are, even though the Philips i use are listed in the same catagory and have never failed me yet. But i want a store with a good reputation and good prices. $34.99 for a 100 pack is pretty good.

No, can't help you there steimy as I get all mine from the UK...
That price is awesome though, here in the UK, the lowest price I've found for TY is around £35 (about $52)for 100 dvd-r's or if you got the verbatim with taiyo yuden code it would be around £27 ($40)for 100....

have not seen anyone who uses Samsung discs to back up
games with so it is hard to tell. But i would not waste my money
buying them. Cheap discs = premature laser burnout and problems getting games to work.
