Hi, I have some idea about PC's but not a huge amount. Currently i have a HP PC, 3.6GHZ P4 HT Processor, 1GB RAM i want to upgrade my RAM to 1.5GB or 2GB, what do i need to know to do this, like will i need new fans etc, Help please thanks

I have two slots, both are used, so i would persume they are both 512MB RAM, can you get 1GB RAM cards? also if you can what do i need to check before i buy?

check if the old ram is ddr400 or ddr2, then go get that ram.. what is the model of your hp pc?

Yes you can buy 1GB on one stick. I would get EVEREST home edition(http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Everest-Home-Edit...) to find info on your memory(and other pc stuff if you want). You need to know if its dual channel or not, speed, and the number of pins(I assume its 184)

That doesn't sound right, don't know of any HP that takes DDR AND DDR2. Please give the model number of your computer. Then we can tell you for sure which type it takes.(Ragnarok2, ya beat me to it, LOL)

Yeah seriously who has ever heard of a motherboard supporting 184-pin DDR and 240-pin DDR2 at the same time. lol and yes trgrpullr but you gotta say that was pretty god timing.

I'm no at home again at the moment. What i do know is that my motherboard is made by Asus, and all that information from before is exactly what it said on everest... Maybe my PC is a mutant?? :)

No. ASUS motherboards rock, definitely not mutants(it would be pretty sweet if it supported DDR and DDR2 at the same time I gotta admit). When you got time just give me the model number then and I'll tell you what RAM to get.

Cool, well the PC cost me £1600 just for the bas unit, i know it kinda rocks, with bad boy graphics etc, but i dunno about the rest, all i know is the processor speed, the current RAM and the Graphics. But yeah i'll let you know the model number when i get home...cheers mate.

Just to help add to the tools list of those wanting to know what kind of memory their system uses, or could use:

Just use that guide, and follow the pull down menu prompts to your system.

Always good to have more tools to use!!
