I'm looking to build a computer and so far I'm undecided between the geforce 6600gt 128mb and the geforce 6800 128mb. I've seen that the 6800 has an advantage due to its 256-bit interface versus the 6600gt's 128-bit and its 12 pipelines versus the 6600gt's 8, but the 6600gt has a higher clock speed and gddr3 memory vs. the 6800's ddr memory (btw, this is for a pci-express, not agp, so unlocking pipelines for the 6800 isn't an option). I've found the 6800 for only 20 bucks more than the 6600gt so price isn't really a factor.

The purpose of the card is for gaming and I might upgrade it to SLI in the future. Thanks for the advice!

Thought I'd throw this in, how bout the 6800xt which is slightly cheaper than the 6800?

hi clonedog, the 6800GS is just as good as the 6800GT IMO. I saw some benchmarks on both cards and they both came really close to each other. Im not sure about the 6800XT. hopefully some of this info helps

the clear choice is the 6800 is highly overclockable and has an slight advantage over the 6600gt..of course you can buy a 6600gt and overclock it to the performance of a 6800 but if you want to be future proof plus a better sli performance in the future go for the 6800 is the clear option, dont hesitate get the 6800 even though you can buy a 6600gt and overclock it to a 6800 those pixe pipe lines plus 256bus width open you to new overclocking possibilities ;) plus when you buy SLI both of these will get you a better performance than both 6600gt...so gl and get the 6800

PS: If you have the money get the 6800gs, its based on the 6800 but a higher clock rate, and it even compares to the 6800gt, and there is a version 6800GT XFX XXX that it clock speed is clocked at a rate that it has an advantage over a 6800gt, so if you could I would get the 6800gs, and if possible the XFX XXX version wich is better than a 6800gt and cost less...GL ;)

Thanks guys, I'm gonna go with the 6800gs now, if I can get it near (or better than) the 6800gt then I guess it's worth the extra money, better to have it more future-proof than become obsolete sooner.
