I've got this problem with certain PS2 backups. It's where in games, the maps don't load properly resulting in there being nothing in front of you but the background (i.e. no buldings, roads etc). I always burn at 2x, sometimes 1x. It seems to happen with both Nero and DVD decrypter. I use Maxell media and ritek G05, happens on both again.

This happens with some games only, like GTA: San Andreas, NFS: Underground II, NFS Most Wanted.

It doesn't happen ever with any of the burnout games, GTA III or Vice City.

Do any of you get the same problem, driving along a road and then there's nothing in front of you and the game has to stop to load?

I was wondering is it due to how these games are programmed and/or duplicated onto the disc tha's making it do this. Are there any solutions to it?

Thanks

What media do you use for your backups? and what mod do you have swap magic + replacement fliptop, modchip or what?

Yea, I've just edited my first post.

I use Maxell and ritekG05 so I don't think it's the media's fault.

I have magic swap and filtop.

Ok, I don't have NFS most wanted, but I do have GTA SA and NFS underground 2... they both work flawlessly. Try burning them at 4x or even 6x.. they are DVD-R discs you have right?
And before you burn turn off the internet, anti-virus and any other programs running in the background. What burner do you have by the way? make, model and max speed.. and does it burn + and - formats?

if they are 8X speed DVD's then i suggest the same as Paddymail
you should burn them at 4X ( i suggest getting 8X if they are not)
and if they are +R then try -R instead
That happens due to the disc not being read fast enough for
what you are doing on the screen. Which is either your burn speed
or your media.
I had that happen when i first got GTA Vice City for my PC
the graphics card (on board :( and processor just could not keep up.
So i would drive fast and the road ahead would just disappear and
i would see the car driving into a blue screen, then all of a sudden BAM, i would hit something i never saw coming and since i stopped the screen would catch up and show me what i hit :)

Okay, thanks.

I have a Pioneer DVR106, I know it's old an all, but other games work fine (and I do have the lastest firmware installed). The max speed is 4x on it. I do use -R only.

So you guys are suggesting 4x burn? I have heard of the fact that burning quicker can be better, but I can't think why this should be.

Is it the burner or the media that is max 4x? If it's the burner, that's not a problem.. burn them at 4x. If it's the media that is max 4x, then you could try to burn at 4x, but would be better to get some 8x.

Get back to us and let us know how you got on with it.

Yea, 4x made it better although there are still the occasional loading problem, it does feel as if the games is constantly struggling to load.

Do most poeple now burn a 8x media on 4x?

You'll get different opinions on that depending mostly on what hardware people have.
But on the whole I would say that a lot of people use 4x on 8x media. It might be worth your while purchasing a new dvd writer, it might be a better burn you get from it.

Have you updated your drive's firmware by the way? if not, do that too.

[edit] never mind, I just saw your earlier post and know you have the latest firmware, LOL.

i agree, i like to use 8X DVD's and burn them at 4X
If the fastest speed the burner can burn at is 4X you should still
be ok using 8X DVD's.
But if you use 4X DVD's then i suggest you set DVD Decrypter
or your burning program to 1X
4X DVD's just don't seem to be able to keep up with some games.
