You need a client to open the file. Azureus is very popular but can be heavy on resources as you need Java to run it. I prefer Bit Tornado by Degreez (stable version). There are many more: Bit Comet, Bitlord, ABC to name a few.

Also, don't be surprised if your ISP warns you about losing your acct, if you are caught downloading from certain sites. One of my friends received such a warning. Over the past year, a lot of torrent sites have been closed down.

I too received an email from my ISP that was forwarded from the MPAA regarding a specific movie I had downloaded but being from Canada, that was the end of it. If you're using any p2p for copyrighted material, use an IP blocker such as PeerGuardian 2 by Phoenix Labs. It shows and blocks the companies checking your downloads and where they are sending the information. It's not perfect but since using PG 2, I have never recived another notice and quite some time has passed since I received the first.

I'm with Bell Sympatico in Quebec, Canada.
What provider are you with, and in what region of Canada ?

Hey again,

Just wanted to see if I was close to you, and using the same provider.
Wanted to know if I should expect such a letter from my provider...

It's not a regional or single country issue. As long as a country abides by the international copyright laws, then the ISPs are subject to the laws concerning copyright infringement. Canada may be lax or some regions or even the country as a whole, but the laws are there, otherwise they wouldn't have even made the first notice in mistycat's situation. Possibly they may not have caught any of the further offenses. South of the border in the US, they're definitely tightening the screws.

I have read of some people who have received up to 4 letters here with no problems. However, in the states, I have read of a computer owner being sued by the MPAA over video downloaded by his grandson. And, the MPAA is posting files on Bittorrent that will go to 90+ % but never complete.

In the US they have only recently started concentrating on video. Music was the big problem they were working on. A lot of people were fined and/or sent to jail over music piracy.
