First off I would like to say wow what a great site. I am new to the DVD scene. My questions is I had a buddy that helped me with PS2 backups but has since left for training. I have a DVD+/-RW NEC ND-3550A burner and DMS4 E.Z.I. Mod-Chip. Before he left we backed-up about 10 games on Memorex DVD+R disks and they all worked great. Now that he is gone I have tried to back-up DBZ-Budiki(sp?) and Prince or Persia-TTT. When I try to play them the screen just jumps. It is in color and the sound works great and you can play the game it is just that it is so jumpy you can not make out much. I am not sure if I burned it wrong used Nero 7.0 Ultra Express, or if I am using crappy Media even though the first 10 games are fine, is it bad files, or is NEC a crappy burner. I may try and find a place that sells TDK and retry. I burn at 4x since this is the lowest it will let me burn at.

Try the TDK and see if they work better. A lot of people have troubles with Memorex. What is the speed of the discs that you have been using? You could also try using DVD Decrypter, instead of Nero. You can get it here: http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/.
One other thing to try: clean your PS2 laser with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol to see if that helps.

At staples last nite I bought a 50-pack of 8X Memerex DVD+R from staples. We have no local places that sell TDK which sucks. I play the mess out of Madden 06 that is on The same type of DVD+R. Just wondering if I am doing something wrong. Thanks for your reply.

My guess would be that they are 16x disc if the lowest you can burn is 4x.. get some good quality 8x DVD-R and burn at 4x on them, tdk are ok.. you could also use Taiyo yuden, verbatim, sony, ritek or maxell in 8x DVD-R format.
The burner is fine, NEC is a good quality burner. You might want to check for latest firmware for it though.
And use DVD Decrypter in iso read mode to get the iso to hard disk... then use iso write mode to burn the iso to DVD-R 8x at 4x. Alternatively you can use imgburn program or Nero in burn image to disk mode with same settings.
Ditch the memorex for ps2 backups.. maybe you can use them for movies? but not ideal for those either really. You always want to use good quality discs for whatever you're using them for.

Yep, what he said ^^^
Just get some good DVD-R 8X DVD's, burn them at 4X
and you should be set.
Memorex are really the worst, and over time could lead to premature
laser burn out due to the cheap ink they use.
In addition to the media he listed i like Philips DVD-R 8X
I have used them for years with no problems.
But with the DMS4 EZI chip it should just be a strait up burn
for every game.

I guess it is best to order DVD-R off of the internet. All we have here in our small redneck town is staples and Walmart.

Just an update I tried Sony DVD-R and used DVD Decryptor an still no luck. I can not find in good DVDs in this town. I will continue searching.

i use to buy my Philips at Office Max
I looked at Staples online and your right, they carry crap.
Your best best from them may be Maxcell, no Memorex
but i would go to an online store that has OFFICIAL Taiyo Yuden or something like http://www.meritline.com/dvd-r-blank-media-1.html

If anybody wants to get the real Taiyo Yuden via your local Best Buy, Circuit, Wal-Mart, Super Target, K-Mart, Staples, etc. Then just grab the FUJI 8X DVD+R or SONY 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan", that's authentic YUDEN media right there.
