Computer Crashes When Rendering In OpenGL, please help!

Hello, thank you for helping... i have nVidia FX 5200 128 MB graphics card, whenever i try to play a game that runs in OpenGL my computer will crash, the screen just goes blank and the music freezes... I have the latest drivers (81.98). i have googled this problem, and it seems other people have the same problem with the GeForce series, but none of those work for me, so i came here. if you need more information just let me know, my e-mail address is edited by ddp.

Ok first of all you should find out if its your software or your hardware, so if you can try using the card on another computer see if the same problem arises (if its so, its hardware problem, RMA it), if it works flawlessly do a fresh install of windows on your system, if the same problem occurs, check for conflicts on IRQ etc, instead of upgrading drivers try downgrading (66.77) try with all drives you can maybe you can find a driver which does not have the problem, also could you post your detailed system specs (I mean chipset mobo model,etc). Also check if the card is overheating maybe the card was exposed to extreme temperatures that caused some parts of it to fail, so make sure of that.

the card has no problem with overheating, i have reformatted the computer a couple times and it still has the problem, i could try downgrading, inside my computer the graphics card is not wide enough, so i don't have it screwed in, but i don't think that is the problem...

I suspect you have an issue with your audio drivers, not your video board.
I believe incorrect system and memory configuration in BIOS are contributing factor.
Setup your system hardware carefully (ie. PCI slot placement in consideration of system IRQ resources) so devices do not conflict.
Set BIOS carefully and perfectly for your system configuration.
Make sure it's solid, before you even begin to install OS.
Once hardware and memory are solid, install OS carefully and config latest drivers with conservative settings (no antialiasing/AF etc.)
Note: your AGP Aperture should be set to 64MB maximum (since you have only 256MB RAM).
I would run 800x600 to begin, and refer to System Information for config info (ie. IRQ assignments).
You might consider removing the useless CDRom (since you have a CD burner). Your burner will DMA easier if it is master on its own controller...
Good luck, your system is not a state-of-the-art gaming platform so don't expect too much from it ;^)
I have a 256MB Radeon now, but I played Doom3 with an FX5200 and it was fine; looked pretty good too (for 640x480, LoL :^)

You should first consider checking BIOS settings!! ok when you boot you press del button and the bios menu appears (for references of your BIOS check your mobo manual), after that check for any PCI Devices that may be causing any conflicts, for that check the device managar (Right click My pc, properties, Hardware, device manager) If there is any conflict try to change PCI slot (move the device physically) or change IRQ seting, about the agp aperture size check your mobo manual for exact reference, about the CD-ROM I dont think is worth taking it out it can be more usefull. We need to know your exact memory model in order to configure latency and timings, so if you could download AIDA 32 and that would give you a bit more of info, after we check and make sure everything about BIOS settings is set correctly, you could make a fresh OS install (or install windows from scratch.
But why instead of doing this difficult process check if its hardware problem by taking the card out and installing it on another computer if the same problem persist you should RMA the card
