I have read a ton of information and learned quite a lot. MY first 2 attempts have failed to produce a good result.
I have a v7 ps2 with flip top and Swap Magic 3.6. Regular games work fine, swap magic cd works fine, swap magic dvd boots correctly 1 out of 5 times(trial and error).
I started with Ghost Recon as I thought it would be an easy game to do since it is relatively small and older. I copied the iso with dvd decrypter, then burned it at 2.4x with my phillips (3rd class media) and had no luck. I then rebuilt it according to 3dluis's guide(http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262453). burned it with dvd decrypter again at 2.4x and it didn't work. I have cleaned my laser with alcohol and a q-tip. My question is, do you think my problem lies within the media, the swap magic disc that doesnt like to boot, or the game itself?
Here is a list of the orginal games I have. (which ones would be easiest to backup)

Also, my media is Phillips 8x DVD-R (I knew they weren't the best, but they are supposed to burn 50-80% and a 25-pack for 6.99 didnt seem like a bad deal)

Probably ratchet and clank, but you should be able to backup most of those games without any problems(except GT4, which is dual layer and will need to be downsized to dvd-5) once you have got your burn method and any quirks ironed out.
What make and model is your dvd writer and it's max speed for DVD-R? has it got the latest firmware?

No clue on the firmware, its was some unlabeled oem deal I got off newegg bout a year ago. It burns dl, made sure it went the whole nine yards. I believe its 8x DVD-R. I'll give ratchet and clank a try before i head down to wal-mart to pick up some maxell dvd-rs lol

Ummm, just a side note here, but I saw your computer specs.... you only have a 6GB hdd? have you ever got any dvd games to rip to your hdd?
Let me know how you get on with it... I'm not knocking your specs, just really suprised if you can fit stuff like a 4.5Gb game on your hdd... and no dvd writer listed in your specs either????

That's much better, LOL... you may get asked questions like that a lot by the way if you leave it like that. It'd be better to have what you actually are using in your sig, so that you don't have to keep writing it out if you have a problem and people want to know what hardware you have.

Tried ratchet and clank on the phillips DVD-R 8x burned at 4x didn't work. I had a few momrex DVD-R 8xs i found ill try those then ill buy some ty dvd-rs and be done with it. Also, I have requested a new copy of swap magic as this one definatley seems faulty.

Try loading 1 of your originals with the swap magic dvd (use the fliptop to put in the original like you would a backup). Maybe your swap magic dvd is faulty (it should load a lot better than the cd).

Yeah, try what sly said.. but also, how are you inserting the swap magic discs? I found out a long time ago that my swap magic discs won't boot sometimes if you place them directly into the ps2 throught the fliptop and reset or whatever... it's better to use the eject button to insert the swap magic dvd/cd and then just use the fliptop to swap out the discs... now I don't have any problems with them booting.

the original won't boot with swap magic, thats disapointing but refreshing to know I don't have to waste anymore dics lol. Thanks for your help, I'll post back when I get a new disc.

I tried the cd disc with a cd game I downloaded (stfu, you do it too :p) and it works flawlessly on cd's i bought unmarked oem 100 for 9.99 @ 40x burning speed, so yea its the disc lol.

I was looking for a new dvd burner as I am building a new comp, and was searching for a good one. I read that the BenQ dw 1620 and 1640 were good burners. I went to newegg and was looking the pictures, they looked identical to my dvd burner. So i decided to open my case and look what kind I had. To my delight, I have a dw1620, and it has been wonderful. I'm buying another dw1620 and a 50 pack of ty DVD+R 8x. Now maybe I can get a rma for this swap magic disc, as the company I ordered from [(ModMonster.com) Aladin Software is the parent company] seems to have casually left off their phone number and I will have to deal soley through e-mail :(.
