Well guys, newbie yes, stupid no. I have been trying to back up copies of ps2 games, starting with grand theft auto, san andreas. I have followed several step by step posting in here and still no luck. WTF am I doing wrong? An example is alkohol's steps. I have downloaded shitloads of tools and still, no luck making them play. They seem to be ripped to the hd, and even seem to be burned to the dvd correctly... Good lord, why is something so easy escaping me? Anyone? Is there a modification I need to make to the ps2? Thanks....

I have seen posts that say you dont even need the mod to play copies by decrypter...I know there are shitloads of posts and I have really tried to follow several different ways, but if someone has a little time as well as a little patience, I can learn this quickly. thanks....

Assassyn - Are you having the same problem?
catman911 - To my best knowledge, you must have your PS2 modded to play anything burned... unless, you use a swap type method (ie. swap magic). I take it yours isn't chipped then? Try going out and buying a swap solution or modding your system and try playing again.

Booting ps2 backups requires some type of physical modification to your ps2. Period. (b3furuya: This also applies if you are using swap magic).
There are many different types of modifications you can do, each have different difficulties (ranging from very easy to hard) and their own advantages/disadvantages. For more info, please refer to this sticky thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/252193 (You should've done this before asking your question)
You say you aren't stupid but you fail to give any details about what your situation is. To me your post sounds like: "Hey guys I'm trying to backup my ps2 games and I'm trying real hard but it doesn't work. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong". As most people with common sense are aware of, when you ask for help you should give details about your problem. How are we supposed to help you when we are left guessing what steps you are taking, what tools you are using, and most importantly...what your problem is, specifically. And no, don't just say "it won't work", tell us what error you are getting, etc. Sorry if I'm coming across as an asshole... I guess I'm just venting. I get really frustrated when I'm trying to help someone with a tech problem and all they say is "it won't work".
We would love to help you, but please, read the excellent quick links sticky http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/252193. This should answer all your questions, but if you are still having problems, don't hesitate to post.
Thank you.

catman911 - Sorry, I replied to the other post first and didn't see your PM. Okay, if you're a total noob... It all matters on preference. Personally, I'm lazy and don't want to have to swap a disc (boot with one disc which makes the PS2 ready to read burned media, then change to the disc I want to play). So that option for me was just plain out of the question. Others like it because they don't have to open the PS2, ship it off to get modded, void the original warranty and everything else related with opening the casing. My largest problem chipping mine was frying the board since the slimline was brand new and no one at that time knew about the fix to keep the board from frying. On to modding then... If you do decide you want to mod, there's the traditional way, the only way available to me at the time which is soldering a chip to your PS2's motherboard. While I find this the best way, I don't recommend a noob of any sorts attempting to do-it-yourself as you could end up with a $150 piece of trash. Send it in to someone who knows what they're doing and more often then not the person you buy the chip from also will install it for a fee. Beware and do plenty of research on the place of choice though before shipping it out, I've heard alot of complaints of people getting scammed this way.
There is now a solderless modding method with solderless chips yet I don't know enough about them to go into any detail on them, but perhaps others can fill in the blanks. Hope this helps, let me know if any other Q's.

Well hell, I guess it is slim, it is smaller than the one an old roommate had a couple of yrs ago. I just bought it in Nov. Seeing as it seems thinner than the other one, I am guessing yes. Model # scph-7501. Damn, I think I have looked at every post, info, etc. relating to think. I have not purchased a mod chip yet, just learning about it.... so that is, no, not yet. Info on what to buy so it is done right the first time would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...
