when ever I boot up my computer, before windows XP starts up it detects a new cpu installed, this has been happening for awhile now and it is not a new cpu. It asks me to press F1 to go into BIOS and configure my own settings or press F2 to load default settings, If I press F1, I go into BIOS and save the current settings and exit, the computer restarts but it asks me the same thing about a new CPU being installed. I can get into windows with pressing F2 but I want to know how to make it stop aksing me when the computer boots up.

It sounds like your cmos battery needs to be replaced. That should fix it. If that dosent work try clearing you smos then rebooy the computer.

Try clearing your CMOS, by pulling out the battery for about a minute. Put it back in, and see if it boots right.
If that doesn't work, check your motherboard manual to see where the pins/jumper are to clear the CMOS real time clock (RTC), then try that.

Since you have done what has been suggested to you by previous posts then I will throw this into the works?
Sometimes if a PC is overclocked it can get the same result. (Changed jumper settings on your M/B or auto settings in your BIOS that could have been changed/modified.) Or in another case, if your Power Supply is failing it too can cause either a low or high voltage to your memory or CPU that can affect your CPU's output. How old is your PC or your power supply?

Check your bios again for any possible setting which could or would put your MB into an overclock position, and try and swap out your power supply with another and see if it MAY correct the condition before investing in another CPU or other hardware.

Hi there-
I seem to have a similar problem.
Every time I turn on my computer, after the usual messages of Pri and Sec Master and USB mass storage detection, I get this message:
"New CPU installed! Please enter Setup to configure your system.
Press F1 to Run SETUP
Press F2 to load default values and continue"
Pressing F2 leads to a blank screen with a flashing underscore in the upper left corner.
Pressing F1 leads to the BIOS. I have tried many configurations, but I keep getting the same message every time after saving them and exiting the BIOS. The system will not boot.
The CPU is correctly detected by the BIOS, as are all the drives. I tried unplugging all the drives, but there was no change in the problem.
I had the same setup before and the computer worked fine. I moved country (from Taiwan to Canada - same electrical system), got a new case (standard tower) and a new screen (Samsung SyncMaster 913v), and this problem started.
I have tried:
-Updating the BIOS through the DVD-drive, but the computer won't access the drive before it gives me the message and freeze.
-Resetting the CMOS. No change.
-Changing the motherboard's battery. No change again.
-Unplugging and plugging back the CPU. There isn't anything out of the ordinary with it . It -is- still detected by the BIOS.
I'm at a loss. Please help.
