ok i have a gateway pc with a 12gb hd.ihave a 40 gb with xp alresdy on it (from my compaq)when i stick in the 40 gb hd it starts to beep and a little space just flashes.iwould think i have to reformat drive,and go into bios and set first boot drive to cd rom.if i do this and put in windows xp disk will it leave me access cd rom???????? some one tells me i dont need to reformat i need a different program to run and what the hard drive already has on it will be there.PLEASE CAN SOME ONE TELL ME OF SUCH OF A PROGRAM.SOME ONE TELLS ME ISOBUSTER????????? PLEASE HELP

You will have to set your first boot drive as cd rom and boot windows xp disc and either do a quick or full format on the hard drive and install windows xp on it and it will boot up fine

i have the same problem
go into the tower(pc)and unplug every thing and then put the power on and then plug every thing back in to save time keep it on stand by all the time

what is the boot sequence in the bios as should be cdrom 1st than hd if no floppy drive.

hey ddp i set the first boot drive to cdrom i hook up that 40gb and it says press any key to boot from cd .......

this origonal cd says on the front distubustion of a new pc and ask for key i wonder if i need the key of my friens pc where i got the disk any other way to do this tried 3 keys wont work

As long as your friend isn't using that product key on any other system, then yes, use your friends product key that came with the disk you have. The problem comes when you use the same key on 2 different systems. That's called software piracy.
