I just bought a HP 1240n and a little paper says at the bottom of the box "updated information" "This PC does not support add-in tv tuner cards" What's up with that. Can I add drivers or something. Or is it the motherboard? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like bs......unless ya planning to use a agp or pci x card like ati all in wonder. Which I bectha ya hp dont have the slots. Just onboard video. But a normal pci tv tuner card or usb should work fine. I dont see why not. Someone correct me if im wrong.:>

I hooked hauppauge350 and in the ulead and Nero I can't get any video to show up. The only options in the apps for device it states hauppauge but not like composite or things like that. It cost like $800 1G RAM,200HD,3GHZ so it's not a dog but if it can't support a card I'll spend just a little more and it's going back.

Heres all the updates on ya comp

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?dlc=en&lc=en&prod...

You could try flashing the bios and see if it helps as there is a update out, But I have a feeling since ya using media center editon on this comp then maybe you cant use a tuner card with it. I dont know. Never had the chance to play with media center edition. But if ya have the restore or install discs for the comp then try loading just plain vanilla windows xp on it. I betcha you will be able to use the tuner card then. Thats the only thing I can think of that is stopping ya from doing so.:>

I have MCE on this computer but it came with a 150. I could install another 200gig hd and put a xp home os in it and boot into it just for something to try. At the hauppauge forum I searched and can't find anyone with similar issues. Must be something new. Like I said it was on the update info. STRANGE

Thanks for the link OZ. I went into bios and changed the video adapter to onboard, it must have automatically changed it to pci,and got the video to stream but when I went to capture got this message;run time error program:c\program files\ahead\nero vision\nero vision exe abnormal program termination..in Ulead got; capture failed the created file is corrupt and unuseable and will be deleted. the video on this computer must run off the motherboard and even though a couple of the programs it came with have video capture in them NONE of them will work and no place to plug in. For that much money you'd thought...It's going back tommorow and I'll have to upgrade a brand new rig LOL

The problem with MCE is you have to have a card that is compatible with MCE.

Dont let the door hit you on the way out, beacause I dont want ass prints on my new door!

This card is a MCE compatible card. It has to do with the PCI or MOBO based video adapter. If someone knows something different I'll listen. Thanks

I would second that Motion...

I have allways Had problems with "HP" ,"Dell", "Gateway" or any Big Company Computer systems...The First couple Systems I owned were HP and Dell Systems and I quickly realized that the Proprietary Nature of these computers make them extremely troublesome to expand or upgrade .....

After My Bad experiences with these Companies i decided to see if i could Build One better Myself which I did and Have never Looked Back....

Building your Own PC is the Only way to go these days if you want a PC to be Full Expandable and Upgradeable and to work will all Compatible Software and Hardware......

I would Suggest that you Bring that PC Back for a Refund and then Take the Money and Buy the Parts to Build your Own PC or even Upgrade your Old PC with new Parts....Building or Upgradeing a PC is not as Difficult as it might seem and this way you get to Make a PC that has everything you want in a PC instead of Settleing for what a Company Builds for you and Passes off as a Good System.....

Cheers
