I just bought a DL DVD Writer and was wondering if i would need to download the DVD decriptor, or whatever everyones talking about, or can i use the free software that came with the DVD writer. The CD says it is a cyberlink DVD with PowerDVD, Powerproducers Gold, and Nero Express. Im a newbie when it comes to burning games so am not sure what all of its for, or even what CDs i need to buy. Anyway would u no if this software would work burning the games, or if it doesnt, any site i can pay a visit to to download the software. My last Q is i heard San Andreas is a long game requiring a double layer DVD, is that true, and would it be pretty straightforward to burn on my doulble layer writer, and how to go about doing so. thanks your helps apreciated.

Look through the threads at the top of this board(stickies)... they are full of information about what you need in order to play backed up games and information on HOW to back them up.
I will make this clear though You NEED some form of modification to your PS2 in order to play backup games, either a modchip or swap magic boot discs and a case modification in order to stop the PS2 resetting when you swap the discs
It's well worth the time it takes to research this subject thoroughly before trying to backup ANY games..it'll save a lot of trouble.
good luck with it and welcome to the forum :)

Yeah i got the swapmagic flip up but im tired of not being able to burn the games myself. today i went out and rented battlefront two, bought some Benq 16X DVD+R blanks, and installed my new burner and software last night. i tried copying the game with the DVD copier, but it wouldnt let me with my Nero software. Im kind of stuck at this point not sure what program to try next, or maybe im overlooking something on my program. Would you please let me know what you think
Thanks

Yep, you could use DVD Decrypter to copy and burn the discs.. it's a free software that many people on this forum and others use for games and movies backups.
You can find out all about DVD Decrypter, how to use it..what media you should use for your game and movie backups etc in the link in my sig entitled... FAQ's by Tokijin(useful for newbs)... it's very useful to look through some of the stickies on this board BEFORE trying to burn backups, it'll give you an idea of what problems you could face and what the answers could be... most people have problems because they use crap media, so if you get good media in the first place it cuts the risk of having bad burns/coasters and helps us to identify a problem if you have one a lot quicker if we can rule out the media problem.
Have a good hard look through this forum, and then try burning a copy of something with good quality discs.. look in the best media thread in my sig if you want to know what good media is.
If you still have problems after that, then we'll rty and help you.

I had the same problem but now everything works fine even when i use 4th class media datawrite.
I use DVD Decrypter to rip the PS2 files on the harddrive, open up ISO buster and open the image file thats i created using DVD Decrypter.
Highlight everything right click and 'extract all objects'
Open CDDVDGEN then the confusing part is this bit, you should still have ISO buster showing with ur iso ps2 image, go to where your ISO image on c:/ drive e.g it might be on my documents called extracted ps2 ganmes from iso Buster' then the order is on ISO buster, KEEP IT THAT ORDER drag each file to 'cddvd' gen from where you saved and extracted you iso image on your c:/ drive. Then the order should be the same as ISO Buster, u can now close iso buster and everything else except CDDVD Gen with your ISO PS2 files, after that click Volume the disc name starts with sles or slus ****** look at ur iso image one of the files will say Sles ***** or slus ****** enter the name and number in 'disc name' via cddvdgen on volume. Keep the producer name always as PLAYSTATION, license area choose one of teh three where you are from, if u live in Europe simply choose Europe. Everything you can leave blank now click on 'file' 'Export iml file' If there is an error like memorry too low, are you using DVD PS2 BACKUP OR CD PS2 BACKUP if it is cd restart CDDVDGEN creat new project then CDROM MASTER DISC if it is DVD its will be DVD-ROM MASTER DISC. Or some drives have dual layer, choose that if yours does. Now after you are on 'Export Iml file' create a folder on your documents or where you ever you might want to find it, name it as IML then call the name the same as your game. Then click save then close CDDVD GEN. Open 'gnies dvd iml tool' Your folder path is where your new rebuild iso ps2 image is. Under that it says IML File, click on the dots on the right side then get your ISO image that you done on CDDVD Gen, click start and wait for the progress bar to be complete.
Now you can use Nero, decrypter or what ever burner software you got, and load your newly rebuild ISO image and burn it on a dvdr (or cdr)
I got this guide from alchol its really good, use his guide it has illustrations and pictures so you know more what to do.

Ok well i got the DVD Decrypter, went ISO read to c:\1_ISO. When i went to that file to write it to my DVD+R it was unrecognizable by my ps2. I noticed the games burned by my friend for me were DVD+R, hence i bought BenQ 16X DVD+R so im not sure its a CD problem unless benq is not a good brand. danm those pushy future shop salesmen locked me down to a 50 pack of these, they better be as good as he made them seem. i was writing on 6X but now ill try 1X, if theres something im missing to do please let me know.

I tried this really expensive CD and still no luck. It still is not recognized on my swapmagic so i dont think its the CD's. Is there a certain crack i must use before burning this CD. The game is the new Battlefront II for Playstation two. Is there also another program maybe i can use to burn these games. I am currently using DVD Decrypter, the latest version. Thanks for ur guys' time.

Sounds like a media issue to me. The only media I recommend for PS2 games backup are (A) Taiyo Yuden (B) Maxell (High Grade "mij" by Hitachi) (C) Verbatim "advanced azo".
How big is the game? If it's only 4.5GB or under, then you can use either DVD Decrypter (for MDS file) and Nero Express (for ISO) or Nero Burning Rom (for ISO) to burn. If it's 4.5GB or over, then you'll need to rebuild the ISO image so it's fit perfectly onto a 4.7GB DVD-R or DVD+R disc and burn your final ISO with either DVD Decrypter or Nero.

@soulman10 - what discs are they?
..it's not the cost that counts, it's the quality, I already told you what media is good and directed you to a "best media" thread... there's not a lot of point in us telling you how to do something and what to use if you don't take our advice.

thanks for your guys advice, i have tried another brand cd my friend brought but still no luck. I did here you have to rebuild the game, like one of u guys were telling me. I was able to edit the systme file, but i cant get CD Gen on my comp to put the file back into burnable format. If you guys no of any other softwares i could use to do this that would be quite helpful. i have downloaded apache 2.0, but i have no idea if i can use this program to get the file back together. I found this link trying to explain how to do it, but its not on newbie level. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/8/251032#1591153. if anyone knows an easier method or diff program to do this with i really appreciate it.

Hmm something about my apatche seems funny, it doesnt really have an option to do as you told me. Its apache HTTP server 2.0.55, i dont no maybe its a diff version than u r using. I also was looking at some other threads and they have had a lot of sucess burning battlefront two. Anyone out there who it trying without sucess should definatly visit this thread. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/127255 I havnt finished following the steps so am not sure if it really works, but i read most of it and ppl are able to play it after they follow the steps to burn it. im stuck on
3) CONVERT THE EXTRACTED FILES INTO 2 BIN FILES. It must be straightforward for all non newbies because nobody seems to have asked that question, and its the only step not fully descibed. If anyone can help please let me know.
