You need a dvd burner that's capable of "book typing" or some called it "bitsettings". Yes... by book typing your PS2 DVD+R backup copy into DVD-ROM will be the best and most compatible format on planet. As a matter of fact, all "original PS2 games" and all "original dvd movies" are pressed as DVD-ROM. Therefore, your PS2 console can play any original PS2 games and dvd movies flawlessly.
Go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/275350 for more info on how to "Book Type" your PS2 backup games. I put 2 mini guides in my thread on how to book type whenever you used a DVD+R media. Book Typing with Nero is on the first page and book typing with DVD Decrypter is on the 2nd page.

I have a ricoh burner and with Nero it doesn't have "automatic" under "booktype settings" only "unmodified", "physical disc type" or "Dvd-rom" what must I choose?

If you don't have "Automatic", then you choose "DVD-ROM" and click OK.
Or if you're using DVD Decrypter to burn, then you can choose the Ricoh inside the burner's name tab. DVD Decrypter does support Ricoh for Book Typing.
Here is a guide on how to "book type" via DVD Decrypter. This is when you're "ready" to burn to the blank media (DVD+R DL, DVD+R, DVD+RW) only. NOTE: set both of your "source" and "destination" ready, then do the following and burn it. If for some reason the (DVD+R/DVD+R DL) doesn't work for you, then try the (DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD+R DL - EEPROM!), it should work, if you have one of the drives that DVD Decrypter listed).
Good luck on using the Book Typing!!

What kind of game(s) are you having trouble booting? What media did you used? What speeds did you burned? Do you have any kind of modifications (ie modchip, Swap Magic with FlipTop or SlideCard/Tool) on your PS2?

Seriously, your problem maybe the media itself. My top 3 choices of high quality media are: (1) genuine Taiyo Yuden, (2) Verbatim "advanced azo or datalife plus", (3) Maxell (High Grade - made in Japan by Hitachi Corp.)
I've been burning PS2 games and DVD movies using YUDEN000T02 and MAXELL002 (High Grade - made in japan) and I've never experienced any issues at all, so far all of my backups play flawlessly.

I had another question: Does the burn speed matter? My media's burn speed is 8x, if I burn at 1x is the chance that it succeeds bigger? or is 4x better?

not sure if this is helpful but I found that DVD Decrypter would not let me burn as booktype DVD-ROM even though I know my writer supports it.
So I installed Alcohol 120 and that lets me booktype as DVD-ROM no probs.
