Nearly every day my comp shuts itself down a couple of times. One day I came in and it was shutdown, the on/off switch on the case was "frozen" and I couldnt restart it, I replaced the power supply but it continues to happen.
Once it closes down I cannot re start unless I turn the on/off switch on and off several times.
Starting to become very annoying!!

good to see u. i just went through something like this about a month ago. my power supply died and i got a new 500 watt from newegg. after i put it in it kept going to stand by no matter what i set the power setings to in windows. so i backed up all my pics, video and music on my c drive and reformatted it. well that didnt work. so the 2nd time i reformatted i reset my bios to default. after that i went back and set my bios to the way i had it and everything ran fine. good luck.

when u first start ur pc there should be a screen that pops up that tells u how to get into bios or cmos ( pretty much the samething). usually u will have to hit one of the f keys or del or tab. when the pc first comes on. it usually takes a few times to get this right, if its ur first time. be sure to set it to default and dont mess with anything else unless its what u know u want. if u have a hard time getting into bios go chat with the pc manufacturer, they should be able to tell u. by the way u said u put a fan on it. do u think its getting too hot? no pun intended.

Both the power supply fan and processor fan seem to be spinning merrily away, I thought that might be the problem.
I will leave it running to see if the FAN helps. Power supply doesnt feel too hot.

It really doesnt care when it shuts down, really just out of the blue. It may be running a little cooler now with the sides off. I will let you know what happens.
Thanks again for your help and the link.

For all those out there excited to hear the outcome, I left the fan going all night and it didnt shut down.
Turned the fan off, left it for a couple of hours..temp rose 4degrees. Re applied fan and temp dropped 4degrees so it's obviously an overheating prob....solution...whack in more fans (when shops re open tuesday)
