I am not sure if this belongs here but.....

Recently I backed up a movie on a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc, using DVDFAB Decrypter and NeroRecode (latest 6. update). Backup was successful, however, when i played it in my Sony DVP-NC325P dvd player it would not play "correctly". Starts ok, then go to Sony DVD screen. When i go to menu of movie and select play, goes to SOny DVD screen. When i try to select options or extras, goest to Sony DVD screen. In fact the only way i am able to play this movie is going into chapters and selecting 1 and then playing.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions about what is causing this and what the solution may be?

p.s.

Sony says player will play DL disc; and that i have the latest firmware on my player.

p.p.s

I tried this disc on 3 other DVD players, various brands, and a personal portable dvd player and it would not work at all.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like it's PAL format. Does this happen with every backup or only this one?

Teleported to appropriate forum.

It definitely doesn't sound like the problem is that it's PAL. If being PAL or NTSC were causing the problem it wouldn't play at all. Since it's a Sony movie it's most likely some variant of their Arcoss protection - possibly a newer version than the copy of DVDFab Decrypter you're using.

Thanks for all the replies;

It was a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc

It was NOT a Sony Movie (at least i dont think so :)).

Same backup process using a regular DVD+R with the same software and no problem playing.

And yes; it will play on any DVD Player (computer based).

Any further help would be appreciated.

Agree with aabbccdd, make sure you booktype. It happened to me on the first couple of dl burns, forgot to booktype and it didnt play on any of my standalones only on my pc.

Forgot to advise you to try burning with IMGBurn instead of Nero your dl media. IMGBurn seems to manage layer breaks better.

Thanks for the replies;

The booktype was set correctly.

I haven't tried IMGBurn; i will see about getting it and try it if possible.

So; no one has burnt a DL using Nero and got Successful or Unsuccessful results?

Any further help would be appreciated.

OK; latest update:

Using DVD Decrypter (buring to ISO) and IMGBurn I was able to get a DL backup that SUCCESSFULLY played in both of my sony dvd players.

At this point i must presume that using:

DVDFABDecrypter and Nero

was the reason my other DL disc failed or partially failed a variety of players.

This is somewhat disheartening as DVD Decrypter is no longer supported and the others (DVD SHrink and DVDFAB) both output to VOB formats not ISO. Anyhow; Thanks for the help.
