I have an HP Media Center zd8230us Notebook PC, and up until recently, have been writing DVD's without problem.

Now what happens is that the DVD authoring software (both Nero or CDBurnerXP Pro 3) behaves as though it burns the DVD, but when I try to play it, it does nothing!

The DVD-R even looks like it has stuff burned to it. But, when I put it into the drive and get disc info from Nero, it says "The disc is empty".

I've finalized the disc and done it with no multisession, so I don't think that is it.

Can anyone help? It would be GREATLY appreciated.

Do you know what the burner is? Have the media changed from when it was doing good burns? Is the firmware up to date on the burner? Post up your Nero log without the sn# so someone can look at it.

It says the drive is TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M. The media has not changed. The firmware is up to date. Where do I get the Nero log from? Is it NeroHistory? Should I post the whole thing?

Yeah its nerohistory. There will be a break in it between burn attempts. Looks like ============= text =============== just the part after the last break but remember to remove the sn# copy and past to notepad to remove the sn# then copy that and past it here.

Only thing I see is you could try updating nero th 6.6.0.18. I dont think that is going to help though. Did you replace the burner that came in the notebook? You may want to contact hp about it. There site seems to say it is supposed to be GCC-4232n which is lg and your log say it is TS-L532M which is samsung.

I haven't contacted HP. I guess I'll do that. No, I haven't replaced the burner, it's the one that came with it.

Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem with the same drive TS-L532M when burning DVD+Rs. Until a month ago everything was ok, since then Nero says burning completed succesfully, and after that, when trying to play the disc it says it's empty, although looking at the disk it's visible that it has data written to it. CD-R/RWs and DVD-RWs work just fine. Didn't try it yet with DVD-Rs.Anybody have an idea?

This is totally bogus, the TSSTCorp TS-L532M has no support what so ever. It is supposed to be a Samsung/Toshiba collaboration but niether of their sites has ANY information on it. I also read on a the Samsung-Europe site that it is discontinued!! What's the deal here we paid for a DVD-Burner with Dual-Layer support and obviously we don't have it. Even worse we are all wasting expensive Dual-Layer discs...which is inexcusable. Is there a firmware update or a compatible driver for this drive? Meaning is this drive known as some other model #?

Hi guys,

I just bought my laptop HP Pavilion zd8000 last month and...this is really bad:

The TSST Corp CD/DVDW TS-L532M doesnt read CD's, it only reads DVD. I can't even reboot from CD rom because it doesnt recognize the cd rom....but this is really weird because it reads DVD's.

Any idea of what I can do to solve this problem?

Help me please, I have all my information in CD's and I can not read it or even install new programs in my laptop.

Thanks

Diego

Yes, I am having the same problem, but I received my laptop as a Christmas present and I havent been able to burn at all. Im going to email HP about this problem. When I try to burn it to a disc with Sonic, roughly 30 secs before the burning is done, it says problem with burning and so on. I havent tried CD-Rs, just DVD+Rs.

I just talked to an online technician about this and he said that I should try using 2.4x DVD+R. If some of you used this, tell me if it works so I dont have to go out and purchase them if they dont work. I have 16x and they do not work.

I contacted the HP tech. support and we tried possible solution for more than 1 hour....nothink worked. My computer is going back to the shop for replacement of the CD/DVD rom. Luckily I have the guarantee.

Therefore, the problem is the hardware, not the software, these units were made on 2001 and the company who made them is out of business and this is a very common problem on this specific device.

Good luck to you guys

Basically.... all the TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M are bogus pieces of crap, my suggestion, read all the above and contact HP if you are still under warranty and tell them whats up. I had to have 3 online chat sessions before they sent me a new one.

I have a HP zd8000 that is about six months old and came with this piece of crap burner. A couple of weeks ago it started burning DVD coasters and after spending three hours on the phone with HP tech support on Sunday, I finally got them to send me a replacement burner. Two days later, I have a new drive that is working well. My suggestion, if you're still under warranty, call your laptop maker and insist that they replace the drive. It's not a software issue, it's a hardware problem and all the "tech support" they provide is not going to fix this burner. You'd think that they'd put better hardware in a $2,300 laptop.

I too have a HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop that has the same cd/dvdw drive in it. I've had this computer for about 8 months now and after making a video disc and trying to play it in my dvd player, it wouldn't recognize it. I tried it in a different player, then finally tried it in my laptop and I was astonished that it appeared nothing was on it even though Alcohol 120% said that it created the video disk successfully. I tried making a video disc in Nero but Nero gave me an error saying that it couldn't finalize the disc. Then I tried Alcohol 120%, then I tried Sonic. Sonic gave an general error message that the disc could not be created telling me to please try again but I will need a new disk. I'm glad I found this forum because I was thinking that it was just the movie I was trying to put on a disc as an anti-piracy thing. I talked to one of their tech support staff via live chat and finally she came to the conclusion that the drive is bad. How, annoying it is when something doesn't work anymore but atleast I have a sony internal dvd burner that I pulled out of my what was a desktop pc and converted it to external. Anyways, if anyone else out there has this drive, its bad news as you may have discovered by now. I'm just glad it went out before my warranty is up.

My god. I've bought an HP dv1340us notebook more than a year ago and I have the same problem. Evenmore, I am out of USA, where I bought the notebook.
IS it true? Is replacing the dvd recorder the only solution for this rubbish???
I can NOT believe it.
