I just bought a Linksys router not wireless and I have Cable Internet. Anyways I am sharing a connection with my XBOX so that they can both be on the net at the same time. The problem is that now that everything is hooked up my computer only connects to the net at 8mbps compared to the fact it used to be connected at 100mbps. Is there a way that I can get it to connect at 100mbps like it used to, I dont really care what the XBOX connects at as long as I can still play games online with it? Any help is greatly appreciated and sorry if this doesnt belong here.

As fas as I know, and there's most likely someone here that knows better...networks default to the slowest connected speed from a machine. However, that's with your comp's network card set to "Auto".

Here's how you can force your card to run at Full Duplex 100Mbps.

Right click your My Network Places icon (or network icon in your systray) go to Properties. Right click your LAN icon, go to Properties.

At the top under "Connect using:" you will see your network card. Click on the button next to it called Configure. Then, click on the Advanced tab. Then, choose Connection Type (it may be named differently) and your pull down menu to the right will show up a list of connection speeds. If your card supports 100BaseTx Full Duplex mode, then set it to that. Your router must also support this mode, as well as all the other computers on your network for this to work.

Now, even though your card is using 8Mbps, it's still faster than your internet connection, so you're not truly losing anything except transfer speeds across your internal network.

edit: I looked up the specs on the Xbox, and it should be using 100Mbps. Check the settings on it.
