I am having a major issue with trying to back up my dvd's. I use any dvd and shrink to back them up to hard drive then when i try to burn them i keep making coasters. I've tried nero and dvd decrypter and i keep getting ans unspecified recorder error. Here is what the log entry from decrypter said:

Hello dwetopgun. Your media is not very good quality which may account for your problems. Use Verbatim and Made in Japan labeled Sony and Fuji for best results.

I'm not sure what speed you chose to burn at but it's usually best to stick to 4X or not more than 1/2 the rated speed of the media.

Is this a laptop burner? I don't care for Matsushita/Panasonic burners and their laptop burners are even worse. They seem to be embodied with problem after problem.

It's always difficult finding firmware updates for them since they start putting letters after the model number for different venders. There's a 1.03 firmware available for the 840s wich is a Sony laptop burner, but I don't know if it'll work for yours or not.

Try burning at 4X and with different media and see if that solves your problem. You might even purchase some RW media for expeimentation. It's always good to have a few on hand just for that pirpose if none other.
