I tried ripping the Borhters Grimm to my hard drive because I wanted to use a batch encode in DVD Rebuilder. I have the trial of the newest AnyDVD and have EbyCDIO for the I/O method and have check for structural protection disabled in DVD Decrypter. I used file mode to my hard drive and when I analyzed the files using DVD Shrink to make sure they were okay, I received an error about some a missing file. The newest version of AnyDVD says that DVD Decrypter shouldn't get packet header error anymore, but i got a few. Can someone tell me how to get DVD Decrypter working?

I tired that, got today's update to AnyDVD and DVD Shrink still gets the invlaid data error. When I run it through Vobblanker it works. Why is it that Slysoft said it shouldn't be necessary, yet it is?

For most people it isn't necessary. The fault lies with DVDDecrypter, not AnyDVD, which, by the way, is optimized to work with CloneDVD. The patches are primarily to enable other burning programs to work.

What do you suggest then to copy files to the hard drive other than DVDFab Decrypter. I realize that works well, but has few options. I read online you could use DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD together.

You could run AnyDVD in the background, rip with DVD Shrink and burn with DVD Decrypter. Many people have success using these techniques.

Check out the guides on this site.

What I'm trying to do is copy the entire movie disk on my HD. I want to encode it using DVD Rebuilder. I want it copied to my HD while removing protection.

Yes, you can rip it with AnyDVD running in the background and then use DVDdecrypter in Mode File F and rip the entire movie to the harddrive. I would create a folder, named the same as the movie, and put the files there.

You can then use whatever program you desire to create the ISO and burn.

I do it all the time.

ok heres what i did....i used AnyDVD in the back and dvdshrink and it worked great....one important thing if there is a newbie reading this..pay attention to what we are saying..if you don't then guess what...if you're a screen basher(like myself) you better either have: 1. a lot of money to buy new monitors.. 2. a handfull of xanax..or 3. the will to give up...pay attention...if one thing doesn't work then try another....rule of thumb...if you don't understand....ASK!!!...

Would you take a minute and explain what is happening when you run AnyDVD "in the background?" I don't really understand the process. Thanks.

budman99,

Running in the background means that AnyDVD will be in the "Notification Area", which is in the Taskbar on the far right, where the clock is, and perhaps your anti-virus, firewall, etc. all reside. It also means it is not the active task, hopefully that will be your ripping software.

Well I had a pleasent surprise. Out of sheer desperation and exhaustion I tried DVD platinum express mode. Voila one step and ready to burn. Yep ripped and shrunk to 4.09 gigs ready to burn. I did have AnyDVD running in the background probably did not need it though. Great copy plays perfect on all my dvd players. I have at least 8 of them.

budman99,

I did not answer your question, sorry. This taken from the help file of AnyDVD.
Quote:
AnyDVD is a filter driver and is running invisibly on your computer. You only need to insert a CSS and/or Region Code protected DVD into your DVD-Rom drive. Everything else is done by AnyDVD independently. AnyDVD removes automatically CSS and RPC transparently from your computer, while watching or copying. You do NOT need to save the content of your DVD on the harddisk.

I had the same problems trying to backup GRIMM: I have the latest AnyDVD but still Nero Recode 2 would choke a few minutes into encoding with an "Out of Memory" error.

After scouring the various forums I found a fix and a better understanding of the problem. First, the problem is not with AnyDVD. This DVD has several protection schemes and a messed up structure. The best way to rip it I've found is to just copy/paste the VIDEO_TS folder to your HD, since AnyDVD handles GRIMM with no problems. It's DVD Shrink and Nero Recode 2 that can't handle the structure of the files even after AnyDVD removes all the protections. CloneDVD and many other transcoders do not have this problem, so they work the first time. But if you still want to use Shrink/Recode, then just process your ripped DVD files through VobBlanker (at the default settings) and the resulting output will now work fine with Shrink/Recode.

POEE,

You did some very good research, and as you found all the info regarding this problem, and others like it are right here at aD.

I never had the problem, due to the sequence that I rip/burn every time, and that is DVD Decrypter (file mode, and AnyDVD in background), VobBlanker (I do extensive editing/blanking), then Recode2, and if I have time RB with CCE basic.

Happy burning,

Rich

Thanks, Rich!

As an update, the latest version of AnyDVD (5.9.1.1) now has a work-around for this very issue. You can now run FixVTS directly from the AnyDVD menu and it will repair non-standard-structure DVDs while you are ripping to your HD in one step. No extra step needed before transcoding in Shrink/Recode. (Sure is nice of SlySoft to provide a "fix" for Shrink/Recode's problem, especially since their own CloneDVD never had this issue.)

Yeah they're pretty handy tool, but I'd still go with VOB Blanker, and DVD Shrink . Because I've used em so many times before, and it's what I'm accustom to.

I came from the DVD Shrink forum?, and offering another solution to this problem...I had a tough time getting this movie to back-up, even with the newest version (at the time) of AnyDVD . So I just wish someone would've told me about VOB Blanker, when I was trying to back this movie up...I ended up using DVDFab Platinum (express mode), which worked, but I was disappointed with the quality. And all the tools used in the guide by Alkohol, are free which is a definate plus.

XxRUINSxX,

Ah, now I understand. I had no problems whatsoever with this movie, and I never saw Alkohol's guide, at the time, I have since. But the reason is, is due to the way I always rip/burn, and that is, Decrypter (file mode), menushrink, edit with VobBlanker (extensive editing), and then burn with Recode2, and AnyDVD in the background.

Between Menushrink, and VobBlanker, I can easily reduce 1GB or more
from the DVD, so compression is minimal.

Happy burning,

Rich
