Hey, been trying to get this to work since christmas, this is what happens:
I plug it in to the gameport on the computer.
under control panel > Game Controllers > I hit Add
I chose the 2 axis 2 button controller When I click ok, the little message at the bottom right corner of windows pops up to say it found new hardware and successfully installed it. However the game controllers window says that it is not connected. I went into the device manager to take a look, there are no conflicts and the game port seems to be running ok according to the manager. I also checked the HUMAN Interface Devices
There it lists:
Generic Game Port Device
HID-Game compliant controller
both working normally.
But the game controller window in control panel still says it isn't connected and won't calibrate, and of course it doesn't work in the game.
Anyone got any ideas? This controller is the one that comes with a game called RealRace Generation 2 (G2)
My Specs:
AMD 2.2 Ghz
CMI8738 sound card
ATI Radeon 9250 128mb video card
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
-Pat

id say that either the port your using is faulty or the pad doesnt actually work as you shouldnt have to add the game controller through the control panel. it should just plug in and install automatically.
try it in another usb port if it still doesnt work, take it back.

i know it works, because this is the deal. I have a game that i just got and it uses this controller. I dont know why, but the makers decided to use a gameport. they usually dont come on computers anymore, so I could either:
1.) buy a gameport to usb converter
2.) buy a soundcard with a gameport
i couldnt find any converters around here, so I bought a soundcard. The C-Media 8738. I have 2 drivers for this.
1.) the controller works, but game crashes due to driver
2.) controller doesnt work, but game will launch.
If I can just somehow get the controller to work with the driver where the game works, or vice versa, im good.
in driver 1.) it has problems with the file cmaudio.sys
Any Ideas? Thanks a lot.

id say that your soundcards gameport is probably only ment for MIDI devices and doesnt like the fact that your using an actualy game controller. its likely that the 2 are simply incompatible.
at the end of the day i dont see a solution that doesnt involve taking something back. you could try a different soundcard but theres the chance that youll just get the same trouble again. or you could just get a USB game pad which will just work anyway and you wont have to worry about sound cards

but the thing about usb, is that this controller is a special shape, to simulate r/c racing. It wouldnt be the same with say a joystick or steering wheel. I would get a gameport to usb adapter, but I called all the local electronics stores and they dont have them, and on eBay, all there is is from the UK, im in the U.S.A.

its your call but id say there obviously incompatible bits of hardware. somethings got to go.
there is however another option should you be willing to accept. if you cant get your hands on a prefabd converter you could always make your own. there are plenty of schematics for converter out there to be found (with a little help from google) i myself made a playstation pad to parrallel port converter which works great
have a look for some schematics . if you can make it and it works it sure as hell beats buyin one

yea, but doesnt like one connector use more wires than the other or anything like that, so the information being sent might get lost?
