Can I mod my fliptop PS2 to play backups??

This is my first post on this forum so I hope its in the right spot.
I just got a slimline ps2 with the flip top lid and a dvd burner for my computer. I want to start playing my games from backups but don't seem to be able to get it to work. I downloaded the swap magic 3 disk
but it doesn't seem to recognize it as PS2 compatible. When I look up the swap magic online it shows a couple of little black pieces with it. I assume these are plugs of some sort that trick the PS2 into thinking that the lid is closed. If this is the case there must be a way to do the same thing myself. So my 2 questions are:
1)Can I modify the flip top?
2)What are some reasons that the downloaded iso of Swap Magic won't work on CD-R or DVD-R?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

you cant backup swap magic, it has sector that a ps2 can read but a regular cd/dvd drive cant burn or read.

well to shine a little light on you, you'll never boot a burnt disk unless you have a modchip............if you have a modchip you wont ever need swap magic.
