Burn the game with DVD Decrypter. Load the mds fine and burn it at 4x on quality 8x DVD-R's like Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's.

1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter.
Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.

2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341
If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262544
If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. So far I've never had a lag, skip, freeze, or boot failure since I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. With results like that, why would I use anything else?

DVD Decrypter (Thanks to Paddymail for the links): http://teammodders.com/download.php?action=file&file_id=1

69. Q. I'm a newbie? I've done this for years, why does my rating say I'm a noob?
A. Okay this doesn't get asked often, I just thought I'd clear it up anyway. Your ranking is based on number of posts. 25=Junior Member, 100=Member, 500=Senior Member, 2500=Afterdawn Addict. Now don't get any ideas in your head about posting monosyllabic messages to become an AD addict. You'll be banned long before you do. Anybody who's been around long enough to be an AD addict knows what they're talking about and should be given respect. Of course since it's post based some members will be more valuable than others. I.E. a noob could be more knowledgeable than a senior member. Just because someone is a Senior Member doesn't mean they're all knowing. Everybody was a noob at some point. Hell I've only been around these forums for two months or so.

There are disadvantages to upping your post count too quickly...

If you just post any old crap and get to be a member quite early on, most people will assume you know enough about the subject you're asking questions about and just give you the short answers to a problem... then you'll be stuck about what to do and have to ask for more direction as to what to do. Also, won't tell you things that you should already know about like updating firmware etc.
Take it slowly and be a newb for a while and research stuff on this forum and others.. you'll learn a lot more that way.

Excellent point Paddymail. When I first got into AD, I tried to answer questions about HD Advance that quite honestly I didn't know much about. To this day I still get PMed about HD Advance even though I haven't answered any posts about it in months. I stick to PS2 DVD forums, CD forums, hardware boot, and software boot. Some of us may come across as all knowing, but nobody knows everything, not even the AD addicts. I have little knowledge of backing up movies, using DVD Shrink, converting AVI to DVD, and various other things. Take time and enjoy being a noob. I know of at least one junior member who installs modchips for a living on this site. Though I'm a Senior Member, how I could possibly give you better advice about soldering, installing chips, and differences in each v. PS2's motherboard as he could? I couldn't. Noone knows everything. Noobs can teach people as much as anyone else. Sorry getting a little preachy, but AD is a really good site, the best of it's kind on the net, in my opinion.

Yeah, I've been corrected a few times about some stuff I thought I knew... but I'm here to learn as well as pass on what I know to others, so it's all good :)
I never did get answered though, I was corrected when I said there wasn't such a thing as a universal DNAS code, one that you could use for any game by 3dluis, he said there is actually.. but didn't explain more about how it works then or whatever.
With Hursty though, he corrected me when I said about not being able to finish downlaoding torretn files if one was incomplete etc.. he explained it all to the guy about how to do it etc.. and I learned something new again... you always get excellent advice from Hursty :)

Yeah I give Hursty a good ribbing when need be, but he is perhaps the single most knowledgable person on this site relating to PS2 matters. When I think I know a lot, I read his posts and I'm like man, that guy know's all when it comes to the PS2. I'm trying to branch out my DVD efforts. I want to get familiar with using DVD Shrink and backing up movies. I used it once successfully, truly a great freeware program like DVD Decrypter. Off topic, but I don't want to be content with just burning PSX and PS2 games. Cheers!

Dvd shrink is really easy to use.. it's the only movie software I use to backup my movies.. well apart from a small program called DVD43 that helps with decryption. I've backed up hundreds of movies with shrink and the only problems I've had are usually down to the media or Nero.. but don't get many of them, maybe 5 faults out of 400+ backups :)

Oh so you got your PS2 back, Ofnir? That's cool. How do you like your DMS 4 Pro? I can guess the answer lol. I'm up to 114 backups myself. I just "acquired" a copy of Ace Combat 5, I seem to remember your sig containing something about Ace Combat 6. That's good info Paddymail, I'm glad DVD Shrink is so effective. I have several things I'd like to backup on DVD like Sopranos, Deadwood, Star Trek: TNG, Entourage, amongst other's. Off topic, but what the hell. Those DL discs are just too damned expensive, so thank goodness for great freeware like DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and ImgBurn. Cheers!

Yeah I'm at about 160 ps2 games backups now I think.. I lose track so easily and have loads that I've hardly ever played. I got RE 4 today and backed up within 15 mins of getting it home :)
I sometimes wish I had a modchip too, but not that easy to get here really - I guess I could import one and install myself if I could be bothered.. but the only thing different is that I'd be able to backup the dual layer games a lot easier really.
My bro has got ace combat, not sure which one though.. he says he'll lend me it sometime but hasn't got around to it yet, LOL.

I backed up seasons 1,2,3,4 and 5 of sopranos no probs with DVD Shrink. I have quite a lot of episodal dvd's now.. will eventually get around to the star trek ones too :) ... sure beats the hell out of encoding to DivX etc, I used to do that, but took around 2 hours for a 1.5 hour movie approx... I've got about 200 DivX movies too, but I put around 3 movies per disc for them, so not too bad, LOL.

Yeah I almost got Swap Magic, but a chip just seemed a better deal to me. I didn't want to rebuild or shrink DVD-9 to DVD-5. I only have backed up two DVD-9 games, GT4 and MGS2: Substance. I rebuilt a couple EA sports games early on, before I was using Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. Like you I don't bother to download a ton of games, 80% of my backups are of originals. Downloading is useful for rarer games, but for me BT download speeds are a little too erratic. I don't mind plopping down a little bit of money for rentals for obvious reasons. I too have ton's of games I'm sure I'll never play. I have Tiger Woods 2006 and NASCAR 2006, and I hate both those sport's, respectively. I specialize in RPG's. I've got several obscure PS2 and PSX RPG's. I'm playing thru DQVIII now, how about you guys? Off topic I know, but I think we can make idle chatter occasionally.

Yeah, I'd love to get a chip if it were easier.. but with it being illegal to actually OWN a chip in the UK (which sucks) it's not that easy to find stuff.
Hey, about the download speeds etc.. I'm with http://www.seriouslyinternet.com and they are awesome, been with them a few months now and not had any problems with my 2mb connection(standard) and soon they'll be upgrading to 8mb for free to any who can get it at their exchange.. very reasonable price too starting at 14.99 a month upto 27.99 a month maximum (based on usage).. the 27.99 a month is for unlimited, and it really is unlimited.. once you reach the 27.99 which is what you'd pay for 30gb's download it's free thereafter.. no cap at all. might be worth looking into??? I used to be with virgin.net for about 18 months, but their customer service etc sucked big time!! with these guys it's one phone number whatever you need 24/7 and they know what they're talking about too..not just lame call centre staff who say "i don't know, I'll have to pass you to another department" LOL.

I play some RPG's like FF series, baldurs gate etc, LOTR and a few others too... but I get put off experimanting when I get games like suikoden IV, that game was bad!!!
Really looking forward to FFXII though, that should be awesome.

Yeah, I got a few games I just got for the hell of it really - like madden '06, a pool championship one and snooker... I've got a box half full of games that I may never play like killer7 etc, I just don't get on with some games, but sometimes I'll come back to a game months after I wrote it off as boring or whatever and give it another try and love it, LOL... but then again, I do that with music too!!!

Yeah that does suck. It's stupid that it's illegal to own a modchip in the U.K. You guys have legitimate reasons for owning modchips like playing NTSC games that aren't released in Europe or the U.K. Most people that have modchips in the U.S., well no need to state the obvious. I don't plan on buying an X Box 360 or PS3 until they're modded, and that's going to be awhile. I'll stockpile PS2 games til my heart's content. There's always PSX games if I get sick of those. The main I reason I wanted a modchip is for multi disc games. I have several multi disc games which do not allow you to save in between discs like the Lunar Series, Crono Cross, Xenogears, and Valkyrie Profile, some of my all time favs. I still enjoy PSX games, though I haven't played any since I've had a chip. Do you still play have any PSX backups?

I love this chip, I don't have to swap anymore! And even if I don't boot into ToxicOS, it still shows up as a PS2 disc in the browser. Sometimes I'll play a backup on DVD thats already on the HDD, just because it can boot it without SM lol. Ace Combat 6 should come out sometime soon, and theres an article about the PS3 which hinted on a new Ace Combat for the PS3.

RE 4 is a really good game, I keep playing it over and over again. And speaking of episodal DVDs, I just got Seinfeld not too long ago and I watch it every morning I can lol.

Good Deal. Your sig looks better already lol. The DMS 4 Pro is an awesome chip. I might have to put it slightly ahead of my MI :( just because it's a little more feature packed. The DMS 4 Pro was my first choice after all. No more swapping, cool beans. You can do fun stuff like play PAL games perfectly and burn to high quality DL DVD's like Verbatim. If you have any DVD-9 games you want to backup, just use DVD Decrypter as normal. I burn to Verbatim DVD+R DL's, at 2x. You'd probably want to booktype DVD+R's, though my v.4 PS2 doesn't seem to care if DL DVD+R's are booktyped or not. That's a cool part of a chip, no more shrinking DVD-9 to DVD-5. Plus an HD Loader program built into the flash, Team Toxic thinks of everything. Are you still going to load games off the HD, or just load backup discs?

I'll be loading from disc for a few days to get the feel of the chip lol, then after that I'm going straight to HDD. Yeah man, Team Toxic is like the brains of PS2 stuff. I remember you said your v4 was pretty picky about which mod it could have. Before my v4 got fubared, I was thinking of having a Matrix Infinity in it. I don't have a dual layer burner, but I don't mind transfering a DVD-9 iso to my HDD from my PC, I like doing that (the speed is WAY better). Dude its been way over a year now since I bought Swap Magic... kinda hard to believe man (departure scene lol).

No, I don't really play any psx games anymore - the last one I have was ffVIII I think... that was a good game :) Didn't ever get into backing up those, just played originals. I sold my old ps1 console about 6 months ago as it was just sitting in the attic gathering dust for £15 ..kept the controllers though, LOL... it was in really good condition though as it was my second console that I didn't even play on much before they brought out the ps2.
Yeah, I'm gonna wait until there's a mod available for the ps3 too... I don't really care that it's illegal to own a modchip, just sucks that it's harder to get one, LOL.. it's not like they're gonna check people's houses for modded consoles, LOL. But they might be able to nab you if they opened your package at customs containing the modchip.
Anyway, no worries... I'll figure something out, even if I have to take my console with me next time I go abroad and get it chipped then :)

Yeah I may consider playing games off the HD once my laser nears the end of its days. The faster load times would be nice. I'm sure they're almost non existent. The MI doesn't have an HD program built into the flash, but it can boot elf files off the MC, so I'd just have to install HD Advance 3.0 using Infinity Manager, same difference. I don't know how HD Advance 3.0 stacks up against the Toxic HD Loader. I don't play PSX games anymore either Paddymail, it's just that PSX backups were my intro to the mod scene. For awhile I played FF8, since I never finished it during my Alcoholic years lol. But since I have had a chip, it's been all PS2 games. DQVIII is an excellent game btw. I have so many RPG's it's hard to choose what to play next. I've always been into the Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver Series, dark vampires+lot's of killin=hell yeah. Since I have the whole series, I guess that might be fun. I also have all the Suikoden and FF games. Have you guys played the FFXII Demo? I'm not too crazy about the battle system, but I'm sure it'll be good. Are you guys into Anime at all?

I'm somewhat into anime, but haven't watched much lately.. I still love AKIRA of course and crying freeman that type of thing. I will probably get around to wtching some more at some point like cowboy beebop etc, but just don't have the time right now...
I haven't played the demo of FFXII at all.. not even seen it, but I sometimes get put off by the demos, and generally they change them a fair bit by the time the actual game comes out too I think.
I will have a look at DQVIII though when I can.. it seems to be quite popular.
I just hope they make GOW2 soon.. I loved the first one, best game I'd played in years :)

I've played the demo of FFXII, I think its fun. It battle system kinda reminds me of Dot Hack. I haven't watched Anime in a while, I used to watch it a lot a few years ago. The first Anime I ever seen was Sailor Moon, and its still my favorite. And back when I used to have Comcast On-Demand, I got to watch a number of stuff, like: Golden Boy, Princess Nine, Pretear, Dot Hack etc.

Yeah I don't watch Anime too much anymore. I heard Sailor Moon was actually pretty racy uncut. I definitely wouldn't watch the edited Cartoon Network version of it. Berserk is good (real dark), Cowboy Bebop and Escaflowne are really good, Serial Experiment's Lain is great, I like Inuyasha (obviously from my sig), but my all time fav has to be RahXephon. It can't really be described, it's just amazing. I like more serious plot oriented anime myself. Akira is certainly a classic, it still is excellent to this day. Again all this stuff is off topic, but I think we help enough people to where it's okay from time to time. I like just BSing and finding out more about some of my friends from AD. If it's not too personal, what do you guys do for a living? I'm a college student myself, a Social Work Major (for now).

I'm gonna rent some of those titles this weekend if I can find them.. got me in the mood to watch some anime again now :)

I build computers when I can get the business... small scale at the moment, but would love to have the money to do full time and open up a shop etc, I'd do console stuff too obviously :)... and when I don't have customers for that I do various stuff just to keep the money coming in...
I like to go travelling too, so mostly try and save my money for that and go when I can... last time I went to Thailand and Australia and that was 2 years ago, but was away for 7 months so not too bad :) Hopefully I'll have the moeny to go again soon.. getting bored here in the UK, LOL

You should join teammodders and xtreme-source if you haven't already... they have a chatroom and members lounge area on their forums too, great sites :)
