Yeah I have an account there. Maybe I'll spend a little time around the chatrooms. I'm like 120 posts away from becoming an AD addict. As silly as it may be, I'm actually interested in attaing that rank. I live in FL, USA. When the Hurricanes hit hear last year, I was right where they made landfall. Between Jeanne and Frances we didn't have power for two weeks. It was terrible. My house suffered some damage, I had a friend whose house was completely destroyed by tornados. 100 MPH winds will change your perspective on a lot of things lol. I might get back into anime at some point, there's still a bunch of good stuff I haven't seen like Evangelion, Full Metal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Final Fantasy: Advent Children, Vampire Princess Miyu, and a host of other's. Some of that stuff is on Adult Swim, but I'm a purist. I watch anime in Japanese with English subtitles, uncut. I can't deal with some of the English dubbed voices. It must be pretty cool to build computers from scratch. I plan to do that with my next machine. I slapped a gig of PC2700 Memory in my Dell Dimension 2400. I also installed a Sony DRU-810A DVD Burner (BenQ rebadge). Wow I see from your sig that you have 2GB's of RAM Paddymail. What kind? Probably some DDR2 PC5300 or something ridiculous. Sounds like you have a gamer's PC. Do you do video editing or do just like the speed and multitasking ability that comes with that much RAM?

I'm quite a bit away from being an AD addict, about halfway there I think... but no probs, people might think I know everything if I reach that stage, LOL.
Yeah, sucks about the hurricanes and the devastation caused.. must have been a bad time for all concerned.. I can't even imagine it. There are a few good points to living in the UK I guess as we don't really have any major problems like earthquakes etc.. only the occassional small tornado.. but it's getting worse because of global warming etc.
I'm not an expert in building or anything.. I just like doing it and it's fairly easy really. I should alter my sig really, I do have 2Gb's pc3200 ram... but only have 1gb installed, I found out my mobo only supports pc2700 if I use more than 2 slots and it only has 3 slots anyway... I actually bought the extra 1gb matched pair ram for the new system I'm building myself soon... but might add another 1 or 2 gb's of ram to go with that too. Which will most likely be a p4 2x3ghz dual core... I already have so much spares that I only need the cpu and mobo to build it..so not bad... the mobo will be dual channel of course :)
I do some video editing etc... but not big time, this system handles that ok actually... but I want something more user friendly for the multi-tasking whcih is why i'm building the new system.. and I'll probably keep this one too and run a VKM switchbox setup so that I can just switch between which computer I want to control.

Will probably get another dvd burner too... which will probably be another NEC, I have had great success with the one I have now, no problems at all... and updating the firmware is so easy, it's always just been a flash utility, so no messing with DOS etc.. although I do know how to use DOS it's not exactly user friendly from winxp, LOL.

I go back to school on Monday, GED classes. I should get it within a month, the writing test takes FOREVER to grade lol. The first time I watched Sailor Moon was on Cartoon Network, and later on I found out it was heavily edited compared to the original. I just got SE: Lain a few days ago, it looks pretty good. I keep watching Shaun of the Dead so I don't know when I'll watch anything else haha. Hey paddymail, have you tried to emulate PS2 games on your PC? It sounds like it would run pretty smooth. Mine was so SLOW I ended up playing DreamCast lol.

No haven't tried any emulators, I don't really see the point as I have the ps2 right near my comp anyway??
Is there something that emulators can do that the real thing can't? maybe hacking the game or something?
I used to do that on the old sinclair 128 games way back.. it was so simple to change things in the games, it was only programmed in basic though, so not a great feat in itself..

Nah PS2 emutlaors for PC are shite anyway. Most have no support and only load demos. Dreamcast emulators' have the same problem. I tried playing Skies of Arcadia on Chankast (the best DC emu) and it was so horribly bugged it really wasn't worthwhile. It'll run more games than PS2 emulator's, but it's still not really worthwhile. If your into dark stuff check out Berserk or Hellsing. They're both out there. Warning: Berserk is not for kiddies, it's for adult's only. Last Exile is quite good as well. It has some of the most beautiful CG I've ever seen in anime. SE: Lain is pretty crazy and you probably won't get it all the first time through. It's not big on action, but the plot is well... awesome. A lot of people hate Inuyasha, but I watch it in Japanese uncut, and it's the shite. My favorite character is of course Sesshomaru (hence my sig), and his sword made from the fangs of a Demon named Goshenki, the Tokijin. If you ever cared where my nick came from, that's it lol. Ofnir you should definitely get your GED. It's a good starting point to go to school or simply enter the workforce. No college or employer cares where you went to H.S. Yeah Paddymail, that's precisely why I have Gig of RAM, multitasking. I use to have 128 MB's of RAM with windows XP. It's inhumane to try and multitask with that little RAM. 128MB's is the bare minimum you can get by with for XP. Ideally you shouldn't have less than 512MB's of RAM. I was so tired of the lag, I research a little and ordered some quality ram off http://www.crucial.com. I can't stand using PC's without a lot of RAM anymore. A gig may seem like overkill, but wait til you get used to the speeds. As you well know, it's the only way to roll lol. So what kind of AV do you guy's use. I've invested in a ton of money in anti Spy and AV software. I run a combo of Webroot SpySweeper, Ad-Aware Plus with Ad-Watch, Javacool Spyware Blaster, and Trend-Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security. In addition I don't run Active X or Java scripts off non trusted sites. Trend Micro PC-Cillin is the best AV around, the firewall is average. I used Zone Alarm Suite for awhile, but it was the other way around, great firewall, average AV.

Thanks for the titles of movies to look at.. I like the dark stuff, no kiddies to watch these anyway :)
I haven't used less than 512Mb ram since I used to have an old pentium 166 cpu way back... it's a killer to have so little ram.
My sis uses around 384mb ram with her PII 700 or whatever with winxp pro on there(that I put on for her)... and it's not too bad, but she really needs a better cpu, so I said I'd either sell her the one I've got now at cost - minus all my extras on here like the big hdd's etc.. or build her a new one. I still have to get some more ram for my old amd athlon 1ghz system too, as I gave my ram to my family when I upgraded to this one over a year ago... not too bad though, I can get 512mb pc133 ram for around £30..then I'll use that for browsing the web when I'm busy encoding or whatever on my new system :)

I just use the windows firewall that comes on sp2 of win xp pro.. it's pretty good and I don't have any conflicts problems that I used to with mcafee.. and for anti-virus I just use AVG free edition as that's quite good and non-intrusive or memory eating too, unlike the panda anti-virus, mcaffee or norton ones that I used to use. Also use spyware blaster and spyware doctor and stuff like ccleaner and a few other apps to keep my pc healthy and running in good order.

I did wonder where your sig came from... obviously realised it was anime related when I first saw it, but never thought to ask, LOL. It's cool though!!

Yeah AVG AV is quite good and free. Norton AV is horrible. There are so many processes running in the background, that it slows your computer to a crawl. Windows firewall isn't the greatest, so I've heard. I never tested it against the shields up tool. My current firewall held up so so. I download a ton of stuff over BT and P2P, so top notch AV is very important to me. Gotta love those real time scans. I don't think building my own PC would be that hard, I'd just need to research it. I don't need to build a beast, but a dual channel CPU would be nice. I'd probably go with AMD, then again since Mac switched to Intel, that becomes a possiblility. I heard the new Window's coming out this year (Longhorn I think it's called) has some form of data encryption that will encrypt your downloads and require you to get permission from a third party company to access them. It leaked out on the net awhile ago, have you heard anything simlilar?

Haven't heard anything about the new windows.. but I don't really look that hard I guess as I won't bother buying/using anything new from MS anymore.. there's always bugs and security issues with them for a long time after they come out.. so I usually wait a year or so, so that they can get them ironed out a bit.
I don't know how well the win firewall stands up on it's own, but my router has a firewall too, so working in conjunction with that I don't have any probs unless I use IE in which case I get loads of spyware etc.. but most of the time I use mozilla FireFox and have no probs at all.
It'd suck big time If you have to access all your downloads through a third party encryption site or whatever with the new win.. I don't think i'd bother personally.. it might be more secure, but unless there's a way to automate everything and it's still just a case of selecting your download I don't think many people would bother.

There's not much to research when building a comp really.. just make sure the socket matches the chip obviously and things like fsb frequency etc... dual channel mem is a must for multi-tasking I would say!! If you're into that sort of thing too, you can get mobo's that have an OC program to make it easier than manually doing it through the bios. Other than that it's mostly a case of setting up the bios to turn on/off different functions mostly. Anyway, if you need any advice I'll see what I can do to try and help you.. i'm not an expert or anything, but you do learn a few things through trial and error :)

Yeah that would be useful. I might take you up on that sometime. I do use IE, hence all the Security Software. Mozilla FireFox is a lot more resistant to spyware. From what I understand, the only real problem with it is they're a bunch of fake plug in's for it that are actually malware. I don't see how that'd be a problem as long as you only download plug-ins off the official mozilla site. I think I stick with IE because for years I had AOHell, and back when I had dial up, I had so much spyware that my IE homepage was always hijacked and worthless. When I got High Speed, I reinstalled Windows, research AV and Anti Spy software and technology, and came up with my current set up thru trial and error. Basically the only way I can get spyware would be thru pirated software (which I never use *wink wink*) or if I manually installed it myself. I don't think I'll be installing Bargain Buddy or LOP anytime soon lol. Cheers.

The anime you listed sounds really good, I'll try and get that through BB online. I use eTrust antivirus along with Ad-Aware Pro, Spy Sweeper, Spybot, and Spyware Blaster. I think I'm gonna ditch Spy Sweeper though, its becoming an annoyance lol. Oh yeah, my AV came with my Systemax PC, so I get free updates for life lol. I get all my progs for free cuz I'm not employed, actually I got Spy Sweeper for 30 bucks over a year ago as a gift, but after the year subscription, well... you know hehe. I'm no pirate though, I don't sell the stuff I get. I heard RE 4 works great with the PS2 emulator, I even seen an in-game vid, it didn't look too bad, it ran pretty smooth. i used to have AOHell too, so I know how you feel Tokijin.

Yeah there was a *borrowed* serial number which Webroot finally blacklisted. I actually payed for mine. Well that's news to me about PS2 emulator's. I've never actually tried them, because I didn't care to configure them. As paddymail said there isn't much point to using a PS2 emu if you have a working PS2. If RE4 works, maybe some other games will as well. So what kind of media do you use Ofnir? Paddymail's is listed right in his sig. I guess media wouldn't be a huge concern since mostly you use a HD. I don't work either, I need to find a job though. I need to work part time so I can move out. I'm 25 and I still live at home. Oh the horror, lol. Take care.

MDS and MDF files are image's ripped with Alcohol 120%. Burn the mds file with DVD Decrypter. That's how I burn images ripped with Alcohol 120%. It should work. Just burn the mds file to quality media with DVD Decrypter.

I use the Taiyo Yudens that I got from supermediastore.com. I was into using an emulator when I was waiting for my PS2 to return, but it was so slow I ended up playing my DreamCast lol. There are a few games that work well, and a big majority that don't work after the intro movie or not at all. Now that I think about it, I've only had one job so far, and that was in late 2003. I had another job for 3 days but it was under-the-table work (hitman!! j/k haha), it involved septic tanks but thankfully I didn't have to work that part of it hehe. I'm 19 and I still live at home, but its cool though. You take care too.

I only asked a simple question as I'd never heard of universal DNA$ codes before, ones that you could use for any game... and he back spouting off about shit for some reason, LOL

Anyway, see you around guys.

You just select the .mds file as the source file when in iso write mode.
According to the image you showed us there wasn't a source file selected and also you didn't have a blank DVD-R in the burning drive either... of course you're going to get errors that way.

yeah, it's a good site overall.. I've been on here quite a while now. It's usually some of the newbs that give you trouble on here, not someone that's supposed to be a senior member, LOL.

Anyway, the good people on here make it all worthwhile like you said, eventually the a**holes get tired of it and move on thankfully...

I have no comments on 3DLuis, though I did see the one thread you mentioned, and can understand why that would piss you off. Nobody likes a spoilsport. I too think AD is a good site. I've had only a couple people give me shite. When I post a comment that's degrading to someone else, I feel guilty. But some people just won't take a hint. Confrontation is sometimes necessary when all other avenues are exhausted. Oh well that's rare though. There are the repetitive noob questions, but those will be always be there. I have come to peace with that. With that here are my top 3 questions I'd like to never have to answer again

1. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 games?

2. Does the type of media I use matter

3. How do I backup PS2 games

Not coincidentally, those are the first three questions in my PS2 FAQ lol. Can you guys think of any FAQ's that I didn't cover in there? I was thinking about adding a question about Media ID. That seems to come up a lot. Any Ideas? Cheers!

Are you trying to open it by double clicking on it? You need to open it in DVD Decrypter. Click on the folder with the magnfnifying glass over it in the top left corner of DVD Decrypter. Browse to the mds file and double click it. Then you hit decrypt and burn it to quality media.

Yeah 3DLuis is okay. I know he's helped a decent amount of people. I could diversify my help efforts more, but I usually hover around the PS2 DVD section. I'm starting to answer more questions in the hardware boot section, as I know a decent amount about modchips. I can burn PSX games inside out, blink, drunk, and retarded. There aren't too many questions about those anymore. Besides which I covered that in my FAQ. What are some questions that get asked a lot Ofnir about HDAdvance? I'd like to include a little more about it my FAQ.

Yeah I guess he can be ok.. he just come off as too much sometimes you know... anyway, I'll quit it as i'm starting to feel guilty now, LOL... maybe we should edit out our earlier posts now. He does help a lot of people I've never disputed that, but the way he goes about it is somewhat unorthodox... anyway, case closed, he apologised sort of :)

Hey Tokijin, the question about media ID would be good, I just wrote a quick guide for a guy the other day actually about how to get the media ID... you can borrow that if you like, or I can make a new thread from scratch for it. I actually quite like making guides... made soem a while back that I was going to host on a website, but everyone seems to be doing that and I lost them anyway when my comp crashed and HDD got wasted.

Hey, I got cowboy bebop the movie today.. and I ordered a few of the others you mentioned too..thanks for those, will enjoy :)
