I have a slimline 12 with a flip top and magic swap.I used DVD decrypter and made backups of about 10 games.I used TDK and Fugi DVD+R discs and sometimes they work-most of the time they don't load correctly. Can someone tell me if I should be burning to DVD-R discs.I have read that some are fussy. Was I suppose to do something else during the burning process -ie. patches ect. They have all worked at 1 point after burning, but it sounds like the laser is really working-jumping around more than usual. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
It depends which version PS2 you have. Booktype the DVD+R's.
29. Q. I have a version X playstation. Should I use DVD-R's, DVD+R's, DVD-RW's, or DVD+RW's?
A. Well the PS2 doesn't load RW's well, if at all, so those are out. v.1-3 PS2's seem to work with better with DVD-R's, v.4 PS2's are 50/50. v.5 PS2's and later should play DVD+R's fine. If you know of an exception to this, i.e. you have a v.9 which wont play+R's, or a v.2 which prefers DVD+R's, don't send me hate mail, it's just a rule of thumb. In general it's usually better to use DVD-R's when burning PS2 games. DVD+R's tend be of better quality than DVD+R's, DVD-R's tend to be more compatible with most stand alone DVD players. Booktyping DVD+R's as DVD-ROM's should provide greater compatibility with your PS2.
53. Q. What is Booktyping?
A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).

@ Stewarty What type of media are you using? Use good quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Try a tape and tissue mod:
tape and tissue mod: From Pretense: If the fliptop doesn't work, just give up on it and do a tape and tissue mod. Open up your case again and tape the back sensor (toward the upper left and beneath the hinge part of the lid) with duct tape or even regular Scotch tape (I use several layers to be on the safe side), put the case back together, and stuff a small ball of tissue into the hole for the front sensor (lower right just above the power button).

Just about the same, just a change on Censor 'A' and Censor 'B'
<> use high quality media such as Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim "advanced azo/datalife plus" or MAXELL (mij by Hitachi).
<> updated your firmware regularly for media compatibility and burning performances.
<> burn at 4X (don't burn at 1X or 12X).
<> if DVD+R is your choice, then "book type" them, if your burner can't do the job, then use reputable DVD-R media.

I dont' knwo wat u guys are talking about, my PS2 read DVD-R back up just fine, i had back up many games and yaeh i've been using them just like original cuz i let my lil cuz play so i never put out original, and my PS2 version 7 read it like original. I used HP DVD+R and back up all my games at 16x.
Yep I agree with Tokijin.. they SHOULD read DVD+R discs ok, but I found with my V5 that it didn't like DVD+R (admittedly, I didn't know about booktyping back then though) so tried DVD-R and haven't had any problems since then.
